Then: Reagan abandons goal of energy independence. Now: U.S. in middle of Mid East fire.
If you saw the news today you saw how a terrorist bomb swept through a religious demonstration in Pakistan, you saw fires in the streets of Tehran, Iran and you saw what a mess exists in Yemen. Where is the U.S? right in the middle. At the same time, Iraq has daily terrorist bombings.

It didn't have to be this way. Following the Arab oil boycott of the 70s, most Americans recognized that the Middle East was a lunatic mess that we would be wise to avoid. So energy independence from the instability of the Middle East became our goal. The idea is really part of who we are: Washington warned us of foreign entanglements.

In dances Ronnie Reagan who says to forget your troubles, give the rich man a tax break and can the conserving of energy. Conserving, you see, is bad for the economy.

In 2008, energy costs played a role in canning the economy. Reagan's mistake was evident before then as we fought our third war in the Middle East. Now, Americans are afraid that some crazy individual will blow up an airplane. But never mind that Americans knew this would happen if we kept getting involved in the Middle East. The Middle East will always have crazy individuals willing to kill the innocent. It remains as constant today as it was in the 70s. It's Reagan's true legacy. Now, we are conserving energy but it's too little too late. Did I mention what Middle East oil is doing to the environment? Thanks Ronnie.

2. I'll never forget his taking down Carter's White House solar panels
...much to the glee and chortling of the neo-cons.

What an ass! Perhaps some day we can drill into his tomb and extract more fossil fuel...
