"Super Mop" ad is a tragic economic indicator |
|
This is true.
Super Mop is a TV-marketed (think Billy Mays) faux-chamois mop that you can wring out but pumping a slide on the handle.
In their latest ad the guy pours a can of Coke on the floor and mops it up.
He then says (close paraphrase), "...and in these tough times you can put it right back in the glass."
And he pumps the handle to wring the Coke out of the mop into a drinking glass.
WTF? I'm not shy about eating food that falls on the floor, but drinking coke from the floor squeezed out of a Mop?
Bonus: The same mop is shown cleaning your (delicious) toilet in the same ad.

4. Nope. Though Pythonesque, it's serious in presentation. |
|
As to whether the creators were having fun at our expense, possible.
But it is presented as serious advice with no cues to suggest un-seriousness beyond being intrinsically outrageous.

2. One ad, two years ago, had a man who retired "wisely" and could "afford" to become a teacher. |
|
An ad for some investment company showed how this man had so strategically invested that he could retire early and follow his second passion.
To become a teacher.
I was a teacher at the time.
I found the ad to be very disturbing and offensive.

3. Better the toilet water than the Coke. |
|
Forget the mop -- it's disgusting to pour the Coke into the drinking glass.
