This 4 year old needs a Bone Marrow Transplant. Please sign up
to see if you would be a potential match. It is really easy doesn't cost anything and if you are a match it doesn't hurt at all.

In September, 4-year-old Maya Chamberlin was diagnosed with a rare blood disease known as HLH. Her chances of survival depend on finding a suitable bone marrow donor.

But the Chamberlin family's search for a match is more difficult because Maya is of mixed race.

The little girl is receiving treatment for her illness in Cincinnati with her mother by her side, while her father takes care of her little brother at home in California.

Maya's mother, Dr. Mina Chamberlin, says her daughter's illness, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, affects the immune system.

"There are two components when you're fighting an infection," Chamberlin tells NPR's Liane Hansen. "One is turning it on in order to get rid of the virus. Component two is turning it off. And with HLH, the problem lies in turning it off. So what happens is the cells that are responsible for getting rid of the virus now start destroying own cells in your body. So it's chewing up platelets and red blood cells and white blood cells."

Maya needs a bone marrow transplant. But so far, the family has not been able to find a match.

5. We've been on it for 19 and 20
years and my son who's 19, just got on too. I was almost a match for someone once and was so disappointed that I wasn't.

8. I'm already in the registry, have been for
many, many years, but I'll certainly pray that this beautiful child gets a match soon and that many more people are added to the list because of her.

10. I just signed up today - didn't know about it. I figure if just one person
signs up that was like me and didn't know about it - it might be the one that can save her (or some other person who is desperately looking for a donor match).

Thanks for bumping!!

11. My 34 year old buddy Bryan has ALL (Lymphoma)..
and has to have a Bone Marrow Transplant in February. Myself, and all of our friends are all going to sign up to be tested next month to see if we're a match for him, and we'll go into the National Database. I hope he finds a match, as well as this adorable little girl. My daughter is 4 as well.. and i'm tearing up thinking about what this family is going through right now. :(

12. They said I would get the cheek swab kit in a week - that's all I have
to do. I'm really hoping more people sign up and really hope your buddy finds a match too.
