We Need A War Tax?
How long would the teabaggers support war if they had to pay a tax that went directly toward keeping war going?

1. Yes, a progressive tax and a draft
That should reduce the nonsense. Military contractors can work non-profit as their patriotic duty, to boot.

2. "The war will end when enough bodies come home and the average citizen has to reach for his wallet..
..to pay for it" Said to us by a PoliSci professor whose class we were disrupting to protest that other lost war.

He was right then, and he'd be right now.

3. They seem unaware we've purchased this war on a credit card. 'Supplementary spending'. nt

4. Yup. Tax the top margin of income at 75% until they start crying for peace.
Then bring it down to 50%.

5. I wouldn't agree with a general war tax as I don't want to
contribute any more than we do already to their criminal wars.

But I would support a tax on war supporters, and huge taxes on war profiteers. I think support would practically disappear if those who verbally support endless war were the ones who had to pay for them.

6. Maybe break it out as a line item?
So instead of just a line that says "Federal Income Tax" with the number, it would have a heading for Federal Income Tax with two lines: "War" and "Other federal expenditures" that total the federal withholding from a person's paycheck.

7. Yes, that's one way to do it.
I would favor that. And I am willing to bet that support for wars, if we saw them actually have to put their money were their wars are, would drop like a rock.

Then, impose the maximum taxation on war profiteers. Such a system of profiteering from war is an abomination in a democracy such as this. If these wars are just, as they claim, then every American should be willing to support them, not profit from them. I imagine a huge tax on profiteers would be pretty popular.

9. Exactly
If these wars are just, then we should raise a tax to pay for the wars. The teabaggers would have to finally admit their hypocrisy.

11. So if I understand this correctly, the same people that are keeping the war going (congress)
are going to tax us to pay for it until we "learn our lesson"? How about if they just end the war instead and leave us out of it altogether.

13. Just let the richest fight first and keep replacing until we run out of rich.
War will stop soon enough when they aren't around to make big bucks off of it.

14. Draft the rich?
I like it. They'd put a halt to war over night. As it is all our warriors are the poorest people we have and that's not working very well.

18. 3%?
What about those who don't pay taxes because they don't earn enough to pay income tax? They get free war?

How do you tax them?

And how much do we need to raise every year to pay for the war?

24. Probably about 200 billion.
Everybody has to file a return, even if you did not previously owe taxes. It's really not that complicated.

You are asking too many questions, so that's going to be it for me.

also why should my taxes go up for a war I don't want?

Keep the credit card going?

22. You'll pay for it, sooner or later.
One way or another, you'll pay for the wars.
