No download of software needed, streaming speed is great and the quality is pretty good when put on full screen.

BBC World can be seen here: http://www.livestation.com/channels/10-bbc_world_news_english

Al Jazeera English can be seen here: http://www.livestation.com/channels/3-al_jazeera_english

4. I think 99% of DU is already on a watch list.
Why would we have so many disruptors otherwise?

6. This is what came up when I went to that link....
Sorry, we are not allowed to display this channel in your region.

This channel can be viewed Worldwide, excluding USA, UK and Japan.

We detected you are in United States of America (US)
We cant see what the rest of the world can see...sheesh.

7. Which link is that?
If it's the Al Jazeera English one, it can be watched on their website as well: http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/

Have you tried http://www.hidemyass.com/">Hide My Ass for the channel that's blocked? It may work, I'm not sure though.

20. Why the USA and Japan?
Yes, it's frustrating.

Anyone anywhere can listen to BBC radio online, but TV is a different matter.

21. Everyone can vote for Livestation to fix this
Here (you can even vote anonymously without signing in): http://livestation.uservoice.com/pages/16300-general/suggestions/431204-why-don-t-you-let-everyone-watch-bbc-world-and-cnn-international-

They have answered a similar question with this...

clarify whether BBC World News is available in Canada (which is not CA California).

BBC World News has just disappeared from my channels, with the message:

"Sorry, we are not allowed to display this channel in your region.

This channel can be viewed Worldwide, excluding USA, UK and Japan

We detected you are in Canada (CA)".

It appears that the detector is confusing Canada with California. Can you please fix this, so that I can view BBC World News again ?

Status: completed
For this weekend only (19/20 Dec 2009) we have been asked by the BBC to block BBC World News across all Americas (North, South and Central) due to a problem with rights for a particular show. Service wil resume on Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The text that supports the georestriction policy was not correctly updated at the same time as the policy was, which has caused some confusion.

In reply...

That weekend has passed, it's Wednesday 30/12/09 now and it's still unavailable in the US.

PS Why is CNN International not allowed in the US, either? Why the censorship? Surely everyone is entitled to watch these channels, not just a select few. This is scary stuff if Americans are being purposefully kept in an information bubble.

13. People who have never watched, tend to judge Al-Jazeera by the name.
The name makes some people think it's a muslim propaganda channel.

14. That's because they must have let Rumsfeld et al brainwash them
As I explained at great length, http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Turborama/84">here.

It's also why I have that link in my sig. line, to try and dispel the untruths about them that Bushco so successfully implanted in a lot of people's minds.

16. They also have most of their programs and news items available to watch on YouTube and their site
You probably know this already if you've been going to their site but, just in case anyone's not checked them out yet, the links are...

Here: http://www.youtube.com/user/AlJazeeraEnglish

And here: http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/

I find their perspective really informative, too. It's a real shame they aren't broadcasting across the US yet, but at least their news, documentaries and discussion programs are available for everyone to read and watch online.

17. Rec'd. AJE is an excellent source of news and produces superbly informative documentaries.
Edited on Wed Dec-30-09 01:51 AM by ConsAreLiars
It is far more honest than any corporate TV provided by the media conglomerates the US. That said, they are selective and "biased" in the sense that they report on the actual conditions and hardships and triumphs of people all over the planet.

Edit to add: The Livestation software provides streaming of 24-hour French, German and Russian broadcasts (in English) and several other channels in English and other languages. During Gaza, AJE was the only network broadcasting from inside the walls, and Russia Today was interesting to watch during the clash with Georgia.

United Nations TV and UNHCR and the Iranian State TV and 'sometimes' CNN-I are among the "others."

I watch AJE via Livestation regularly, and find 1 hour there is worth more than 24 hours of CNN. The software is available for Windoze, Mac and Linux.
