Ummm, what???
Okay, so the local paper (www.greeleytrib.com) is doing one of
those year-end poll thingies. But this one question gave me
pause:

8. Due to the tenacious economy, what expenses will you be
cutting back on in 2010?

   Eating out

   Vacations

   Entertainment

   Transportation

   Other (please specify)

9. Actually, one meaning of "tenacious" is...
Edited on Wed Dec-30-09 09:08 PM by Boojatta
closefisted; miserly.

Also, another meaning of "tenacious" is...
stubborn.

You could say that the economy is in a sense behaving in a stubborn way.

10. Yeap,
but our paper is notorious for its malaprops and lack of editing proficiency. I'm guessing they were going for 'tenuous'. Earlier this year they did a story about a new statue to honor the founder of a nearby community; the paper noted that the man would likely be surprised to see 'so many of his ancestors in attendants' -- we had fun with that one for days.

12. sounds like the local fishwrap here--I gave up even trying to read this reichwing waste of trees
years ago, after I asked if they had eliminated the position of proofreader.
