I have Time Warner Cable and I REFUSE to pay more for Fox News!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really! This makes me just want to throw the TV out the window!

NEW YORK (Reuters) - About 13 million Time Warner Cable Inc subscribers were to lose most Fox programing at midnight on Thursday unless the cable service provider reached a last-minute deal to pay fees to News Corp to broadcast the shows.

U.S. | Entertainment

Talks heated up as the deadline approached but the two sides were deadlocked on some key points, according to a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity.

News Corp, which owns Fox, wants Time Warner Cable to pay $1 per subscriber per month for the right to carry Fox Networks' free-to-air broadcast shows such as "American Idol," "The Simpsons" and "House," as well as sports programing like NFL and college football games.

Subscribers could lose Fox programing in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Orlando.

Fox's dispute with Time Warner Cable is also about higher affiliate fees for several entertainment and sports cable networks including FX, Speed, Fuel and Fox Soccer Channel. The discussions do not include Fox News and Fox Business.

The Federal Communications Commission chair Julian Genachowski on Thursday proposed a temporary deal.

"I have urged Fox and Time Warner Cable to agree to a temporary extension of carriage if they do not come to terms on a new carriage agreement today, in order to prevent disruption to their viewers."

Time Warner Cable on Thursday said it had urged Fox to agree to a 30-day cooling-off period proposed by New York congressman Steve Israel so Fox shows could remain on the cable operator's network at least till January's end.

5. OK, but your local Fox affiliate carries those.
FX, Speed, Fuel and Fox Soccer Channel are the channels in question.

Frankly, I am only concerned about FX. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of the greatest shows ever in the history of shows.

I don't know how they get away with some of the stuff they do :)

Frank and Charlie tripping on acid... good times.

As much as I think the world would be a much better place if everyone would do as I say, they simply don't.

Soory. :(

10. Unfortunate.
I still dont want to pay more tho so if it means no other FOX channels than so be it. In fact they could cut hundreds of other channels as well as far as I'm concerned. I wish we were able to pay only for the channels or even better shows we really want to watch.

27. they are owned by the same person...correct?
The Fox Broadcasting Company (FBC), commonly referred to as Fox (often stylized FOX), is an American television network owned by Fox Entertainment Group, part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. Launched on October 9, 1986, from 2004 to 2009 Fox was the highest-rated broadcast network in the 18–49 demographic.<2> In the 2007–08 season, Fox became the most popular network in America in household ratings for the first time in its history, replacing CBS.<2> CBS took back the top spot in the 2008-09 season, though Fox remains a solid runner-up.<3>

The Fox Broadcasting Company and its affiliates operate many entertainment channels internationally -- including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Germany, Japan, India, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, South America, Central America, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, and Turkey -- although these do not necessarily air the same programming as the U.S. network. Most viewers in Canada have access to at least one U.S. Fox affiliate, although most of Fox's primetime programming is subject to Canadian simultaneous substitution regulations.

The network is named after sister company 20th Century Fox, and indirectly for producer William Fox, who founded one of the movie studio's predecessors, Fox Film.

15. You know it's getting to the point where cable just isn't worth the maggots you carry!

90% of TV is garbage anyway. You can make fun of the frustration but do a poll. Most people would give up their Tv before they give up their computer.

Who needs it?

19. you know what really makes me upset,
faux news is included in the first tier of cable, but it I want MSNBC (Rachel, Keith, Big Ed and Lawrence (:loveya:), I have to pay premium prices. Which, after coming off a long period of unemployment, is just not in the cards, and as a result, I just don't carry cable. Thankfully, I can download the podcasts for Keith and Rachel. I wish Ed would podcast as well.

Other than simply not purchasing cable, I am not quite sure what I can do about this, who I can complain to. And I sure would like to know why some big cable mucky-muck thinks right wing BS is more worthy to be included in the basic cable lineup than MSNBC. Excuse me, but what party won the last few elections?

Ah, yes, I have a rather embarrassing middle aged lady crush on Lawrence O'Donnell. :) :) :)

23. Time Warner can't afford to raise its basic cable rates.
They would lose too many customers in this economy. They will probably make Fox an option that you pay for like HBO.

Looks like Rupert Murdoch's enterprises are in trouble. He wants to squeeze more out of his internet postings and now wants to squeeze more out of cable. Looks like he has not managed his business well. The barely clad hussies he hires to read the news must cost him a fortune.

29. It is ironic that FAUX expects the public to DEMAND they be kept on TW..but
Edited on Fri Jan-01-10 01:55 AM by BrklynLiberal
never bother to say that it will cost the consumer more money. Once FAUX gets more money, the other channels will demand more money, and you can be sure that the cable providers will not absorb the extra cost themselves
