Time Warner subscribers....Is Fox gone?
Edited on Fri Jan-01-10 12:26 AM by Renew Deal

Food Network and HGTV have disappeared off of Cablevision because of failed negotiations.

11. actually its an attempt to hold down price increases
Fox wants a dollar a subscriber and TWC correctly is resisting.

In the end, this is just a prelude to a multi year battle that will change the model of free television to one in which there is no such thing.

22. The Change To Digital Was The First Step To Eliminate Free TV.......
bad reception by many that made the switch to digital caused them to abandon it and get basic cable which they now pay for but don't have the weak or no signal problems.

Notice that the media is not out evaluating the switch to digital cause they know it sucks. If you don't have a roof antenna - good luck.

As more and more networks demand payment and the cable companies cave to the pressure - free TV will go the way of the Pony Express.

It's only a matter of time.

25. yep. and if fox, nbc, cbs, and abc each demand that twc pay them a buck
you'll see a $4 increase in the lowest priced level of service next year.

Though in the letter they said they could've of raised it even more. So I'll stand with my original contention.

All the Faux junk is still there. I wouldn't miss it if it were gone though.

3. As far as we know ....
They will be gone tomorrow. We are in California, so it might be different somewhere else. Fox wanted to charge Time Warner a dollar per viewer and Time Warner wasn't going for it. It would have raised everybody's prices, and frankly none of the programming was worth it.

The only thing I could think of was, "Is Faux News going? Please, please?":bounce: It would be one way to start the New Year's right.

12. Fox Noise Was Staying
the dispute was the other Fox Channels - including the one that's supposed to be "regular" broadcast/non-cable. My husband and I like watching House (with Hugh Laurie) and were concerned we wouldn't get to see the Sugar Bowl. We would have cheered if Faux News was going away.

4. They signed a temporary extension to avoid blackout.
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5BU2RX20100101

It isn't over though. The broadcasters are seeing double digit declines in ad revenue. They need retrans fees from cable & sat companies to stay afloat. The cable * sat companies would rather continue to get broadcast content for free.

Eventually all cable companies will end up paying all broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc). The question is how much. Looks like TW want $0.30 and Fox wanted a $1.00.

9. Fox Spokesman: News Corp., Time Warner Still Negotiating At Midnight
Says Company Will Allow 'A Little More Time' As Talks Progress
http://www.multichannel.com/article/442213-Fox_Spokesman_News_Corp_Time_Warner_Still_Negotiating_At_Midnight.php

At the stroke of midnight Eastern Standard Time, News Corp. had not pulled its Fox signals on the Time Warner Cable system, although the two sides still had not sealed a retransmission consent deal for Fox-owned stations and several Fox-owned national and regional cable networks.

"We're still negotiating and are going to allow a little more time," a Fox spokesman told B&C.

The extension appears to be a few hours. The contracts expire according to local time -- so, for example, the deal for KTTV in Los Angeles expires at midnight Pacific Standard Time. The national cable networks involved expire at midnight Pacific Time as well. So a three-hour extension would extend the negotiations until the last deadline of the deal.

19. time warner is going to be the one who caves here...
that is just a fact.

three words. n. f. l.

and just so nobody gets pissed at me here, fox news was never an issue in this dispute. fox news was always going to be broadcast on time warner. always. no matter what. not part of this dispute.

but you can't cut off the nfl from the people. not during the playoffs. fox knows this. time warner knows this.

time warner will fold...
