Bible scholar Harold Camping predicts end time of May 21, 2011
Happy new year, everyone, it seems that we have just one and a half years of existence left. Why? Harold Camping, owner of the Christian radio network Family Radio, claims to have formulated mathematical, Biblical proof. Read more in the article Biblical scholar's date for rapture: May 21, 2011 in the San Francisco Chronicle. He also criticized the Mayan end time prediction of December 21, 2012.

Ya see? That's the problem with religion and ancient belief systems in general. Ever heard of something called science...better yet geology, ecology, or astronomy?

1. Lolz. I expect it be as successful as his End of World prediction of 1994.

2. To debunk those complaints about "liberal bias". Instead, the papers just waste ink and space.

3. This could actually work for us.
We could convince the Republican senators that they don't actually NEED to filibuster anything anymore, because well...you know.

4. anybody predicting the end of the world is not, by definition, a biblical scholar.

Biblical scholars may or may not be religious (most start religious but end up secular) study biblical languages extensively and like other disciplines have to publish peer review articles based on original scholarship.

Camping has had no biblical training either at college or graduate level and wouldn't last more than a month at any well known seminary.

5. We are again nearing the end of times
Like in 2000
In 1984
1982
Oct 22, 1844
etc

In fairness...one day the sun will burn out and this universe will cease to exist. Then they can claim victory.
That is if we don't destroy each other first

6. Amusing, considering some believe our calendar is off by about 4-6 years, making this 2014 earliest.
Has to due with the death of King Herod. Jesus being born in 1AD would have him born several years AFTER King Herod died. It's a very old calculation error that we probably won't ever bother fixing. We'll likely switch to a different calendar system before that is seriously considered.

Oh, and the Mayans predicted no such fucking thing.

7. No worse than the people I hear telling me global warming is gonna kill me soon
Been hearing it was global cooling and overpopulation back in the 70's, then it was global warming, now it is climate change....

Shit, seems there are always going to be people around trying to control the lives of others and make a buck from end of the world stuff.

9. Oh, that God...he's such a kidder...
Harold Camping wonders:

"Because I was an engineer, I was very interested in the numbers," he said. "I'd wonder, 'Why did God put this number in, or that number in?' It was not a question of unbelief, it was a question of, 'There must be a reason for it.' "

Some religious whackos I've spoken with also think that God purposely buried dinosaur bones to "test our faith".

Etc.

Why would God do things like that?

Because he apparently gets a huge laugh at people who like to make up shit. And he also must get a huge laugh at people who believe the shit, and keep believing it every time even when none of the "predictions" ever happen.

Like poor Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin.

Seriously, these whackos deserve their own country someplace where they can delude each other all they want.

10. Even the guys in The Bible - Peter, Paul, etc. thought the world was going to end
"soon" so people needed to get ready spiritually.
