"Profits before people"

Sure it's a "catchy" phrase but isn't this what has been happening in the drawing up of this so-called "health care reform" legislation?
Isn't this the core reason why Congress and the President worked so many months threading-the-needle on making sure capitalism remains a vital component in health care while at the same time attempting to appease us?
Why is for-profit capitalism involved in health care?
Can't health care providers make a good living in a not-for-profit health care system? (of course they can)

3. Is that your catchy phrase? Do you have a link to what may or may
not happen? Or are you one of those dead-enders who think the worst, all the time?

4. Maybe it's the lobbying and campaign contributions.
Maybe they are just pathetically out of touch.
Maybe it's all part of a bigger plan to increase the wealth divide to third world levels.

Whatever the reason(s), it's completely fucked up and unacceptable. Instead of emulating Canada, they are turning us into Mexico.

7. You need to have some profit incentive or else there will not be investment that is needed for new
technology and growth

8. That's .........non chemical fertilizer.
The money for technology mostly comes from governmental investment. The refinement comes from the private sector, sometimes. And growth isn't the point. We are going to have to learn to live within a finite system, or find another planet to destroy.

9. Um, what technology and growth is needed in the insurance industry?
What innovations in the insurance industry has been made in the last century, which has benefited mankind?

The concept of collecting money from a risk pool to cover those who experience misfortune has existed for a long time, without a whole lot of change. Where exactly does profit enhance that field, and how is that coherent with the facts that for-profit insurance is far, far, far less efficient than some non-profit insurers (by as much as a factor of 20-30).

10. Sure you're right. Why 25 years from now you can look back and say you were ahead of your time
In the present, we are pushing the rope as far as we can get away with considering the neanderthals we have in Congress. We've barely emerged from the dark ages - it'll take time before heavy duty progress occurs - if ever.

12. Health care providers probably can, it's the health insurance providers
that are in a panic because they fear we are about to realize we don't need their expensive middle man interference, and might prefer some less expensive government interference.

15. Capitalism
Health Insurance Companies are exempt from anti-trust laws.

Please tell me what this has to do with capitalism? They all have virtual monopolies and they're for profit private companies.

If you're a capitalist then you should be renouncing monopolies from the rooftops across the entire United States!
