Not A Poll: What is Your World's Biggest Problem?
It is your world. The whole damned thing.
What, to you, is the most major problem that the world could live without?

10. +1. Religions, not only zealots, are behind so many problems.
I suppose it's how one defines zealotry, but wars and movements against womens' rights, science, the environment, etc., are often from the centrists of various religions.

19. Money.
I believe that, we the underclasses, need to start developing an underground economy based on barter. That way it doesn't get on the books and it will be hard to tax. We need to break the back of this corporate beast once and for all. In case you don't know how it works, it's that you provide goods and or services in exchange for other goods and services. Instead of money you are issued a kind of script that you can use with others partaking in the system. Sure you still will have jobs or business but you can do a lot of your business underground. It's not exactly legal, but what our country is doing to us by forcing us to kow tow to corporations is criminal.

29. War. Or invasions / occupations, whatever you want to call them.
I have nightmares over them. Have seen too many pictures and read too many articles in the last few years. Such hatred and cruelty for humanity. My gawd, the dead children. Greed, and self-entitlement, wasting resources like they're a never-ending supply. These are all related ..... but mainly, war.

33. Greed!
In my opinion greed (not just for money and wealth, but for power, food, sex. . .all forms of addictive greed that leads to extremes) is the basis of all our social problems. . .from poverty, to theft, to rape, to crime, to obesity, to health issues.

34. The human predatory instinct.
I've been thinking a lot lately about what divisions in our society are really based on. It seems to me we have two very basic worldviews in conflict: The predatory mindset versus the cooperative mindset. These mindsets are reflected in our views toward commerce, defense, religion, the role of government, virtually everything.

The predatory instinct has for most of history dominated. That is not surprising since it's adherents seek to dominate and force compliance. The dominance of predation has come with its benefits as well as its perils, but now those perils threaten to destroy our species. I believe our society and our species will evolve toward a more cooperative structure-not eliminate the competitive urge, but strike a better balance. I think the change is coming. Take the movie "Avatar" as one example. There could not be a clearer indictment of the predatory mindset than what I saw in that movie. Hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of people will see it. A movie alone will not change the world, but its success can be seen as one small victory in terms of the conflict I have outlined.

The times they are a changin', and for the better I think. Right now the predators have the upper hand here in America, but don't think for a minute their victory is complete.

44. As many have said, religion.
You get rid of religion, you get rid of about 90% of the world's problems. Lennon said it best "imagine no religion". The world would be a much better place without it!

45. Religions. As often as they promote peace and good will, they establish and
perpetuate differences based on faith alone. Though nothing is provable, the predominant religion expects all others to believe what they do. The result is extremism, zealotry, intolerance, and religious wars. Even members of the same religion find it impossible to overcome their differences. Orthodox Jews, for example, have committed all kinds of horrible acts against the less observant, even murder. Shiites and Sunnis hate each other at least as much as they hate Jews, and there is plenty of evidence. (President Uniter may have slowed it a bit in giving them a common enemy - us, but I think it has returned to normal.) Believers hate atheists; Godless communists hate believers. Nothing approaches religion as a source of divisions and wars. And there is no negotiating with someone who is doing what they think God wants them to. If that means millions of deaths or blowing up the world, so be it. They have no doubts as to God's wishes.

Stealing from the old "drugs will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no drugs", I think it is safe to say that "ethics will get the world through times of no religions better than religions will get the world through times of no ethics."
