Russ Baker's Family of Secrets, a 600 page thriller that digs more deeply into the Bush Family than anyone has ever done. The paperback is now in its third edition and I've been urging Russ to work with someone on doing a synopsis that we could use to turn people on who are intimidated by books with hundreds of pages. Yesterday he finally sent me something that can be used here at DWT. He starts with the questions many of us have asked over and over again: "How did the spectacularly unqualified George W. These are the questions that launched Russ Baker into five years of research. The answers, based on hundreds of interviews, including with persons close to the Bush family who had never talked with reporters, proved astounding.

Not only, Baker found, had we missed the very essence of W., but also of his father and grandfather and in fact the entire clan. Moreover, behind the secrets of the Bushes and their circle lay larger ones that cast decades of American history in a new and revealing light.

The Bushes have been portrayed as everything from incompetents to ideologues to outright crooks. Many of their transgressions are now well known-- from grandfather Prescott’s involvement with Nazi-era financiers to W.’s initiatives that weakened Americans’ constitutional rights at every turn.

But Baker’s research took him to far deeper levels of insight into the American power machine, as it unearthed material of the sort more commonly identified with shady foreign regimes or Hollywood thrillers than with the still-hallowed U.S. presidency.

You must also know the relationship between this family and the Bin Laden family. What do you think would happen to someone who was not a member of the Bush crime family, if it such close connections to American's #1 terror suspect were revealed? Do you think they would not be hounded for the rest of their lives? So, what makes the Bush family so different that the MSM does not dare mention it?

If that assassination attempt had been successful, Senior would have been president. I read somewhere that Reagan did not want Bush as his VP and that he despised him and the 'secret cabal' he surrounded himself with. Can't remember where I read that, but it also claimed that the Reagans rarely invited the Bushes to their private residential apartment in the WH. Also, that Nancy was afraid of Sr. after the assassination attempt.

And then, there was Iran Contra. And Bush Sr.'s close relationship with the Rev. Moon, helping him to establish his 'news' organization. Seems like a completely unlikely relationship considering Moon's funding of North Korea and his imprisonment for tax evasion during the Reagan Administration. Moon was under investigation by the FBI airc, for his donations to the N.Korean regime. But nothing came of it even though Bush the lesser named N.Korea as part of the 'axis of evil'.

You may not be curious about the strange thread that ties this family to so many of the tragic historical events of the past several decades, but your attempt to dismiss them will not make them go away. People who yell 'conspiracy' and 'tin foil' about these historical events simply make me more interested. And wonder why, especially a Democrat, would want to stop people from looking for answers to questions that were never answered.

If you are so certain of YOUR facts, why don't you give us your theory on all these 'coincidences', such as Bush Sr's now known presence in Dallas on that day? Why is he still lying about it now that it has been documented? I have concluded that the real 'conspiracy theories' are the ones Americans have been asked to swallow, but to their credit, have not, which include the 'official' theory of the Kennedy Assassination and the 'official' theory of 9/11. He's a seedy character, who would probably be in jail, if he didn't belong to the Bush family. His ex-wife said that Babs and Poppy Bush refused to help her, even though Neil was the one caught cheating, devastating her and her marriage. They, according to her, told her she was on her own. She had been a very loyal member of the Bush clan, or so she thought. They defended their cheating son and shut her out of the family, according to her.

She abruptly pulled back and when questioned, pretty much responded that she wanted to live long enough to see her grandchildren. Your statement is our hope as well. This power elite that deforms our democracy has become tired of all the work needed to give the appearance that this is still government "of the people". The health-care "debate" has pitted 2 forces in D.C. against each other. As I mentioned above, our own Octafish pm'd me to read Baker's brilliant work and I, at first hesitated because I'd read bios on the Bush Family by Kelley, Phillips, Tarpley and others and thought, 'oh, what could be new?' Well, everything is new and Baker turns the entire Watergate scandal upside down.

I found myself arguing with Baker throughout the book only to have is research and evidence correct the tale I always thought I knew since I'd lived through it.

Gore Vidal says it's one of the most important books written in the last ten years.
