Released from hospital, Limbaugh pronounces US health system ‘just dandy’

By Raw Story
Saturday, January 2nd, 2010 -- 12:53 pm

Outspoken US conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh left hospital in Hawaii on Friday after a heart scare, and took a veiled swipe at President Barack Obama's plans to reform health care.

Limbaugh, the multi-millionaire high priest of talk radio, who is a hugely influential figure in Republican politics, said doctors had found nothing wrong with his heart -- despite severe chest pains he suffered on Wednesday.

"I have been treated to the best health care the world has to offer -- that is right here in the United States," Limbaugh said.

<<<<<snip>>>>>>>

However, the state of Hawaii in the 1970s passed a package of health insurance reforms carrying requirements similar to the package recently passed by the U.S. Senate. Think Progress points to an October report in The New York Times that held up Hawaii as a model state for lawmakers debating health reforms. Hawaii mandates that employers purchase "relatively generous" health benefits for their full time workers.

"Hawaii’s health insurance premiums are nearly tied with North Dakota for the lowest in the country, and Medicare costs per beneficiary are the nation’s lowest," the Times noted. Hawaii also has the lowest percentage of uninsured citizens among all 50 states and its residents have a longer life expectancy than Americans in the continental U.S.

2. Interesting info. Are they also mandated to buy and be taxed on those benefits?

6. It's an employer mandate only
and it kicks in at 20 hours/week, not 30 like most of the mainland (this explains why the average work week at Sprawl-Mart is 28 hrs. :eyes: ).

They had to get a special exemption from ERISA in order to do what they did. Might be time to bring ERISA in for an overhaul.

23. It also requires that out of pocket expenses be kept low

so people can actually access care, not just have insurance.

It really isn't "socialized medicine". Private insurers are used, but they are heavily regulated. As a result of the regulation and the fact that people can get care when they need it (not wait until the condition is too bad to ignore), Hawaii has some of the lowest insurance costs in the U.S.

3. Kinda set a trap for himself with that. It's like one of Franken's books pointed out
The easiest job in radio-Rush Limauagh's fact checker.

4. and probably the least used position ...
just imagine how hard it would be if the fact checker actually had to find facts to back up Rush's statements ... that would be worse than being George W. Bush's proofreader ...

7. seriously! This has to be a classic goof
And the reason the doctors found nothing wrong with his heart - probably because he has none!

9. OR, the doctors are liberal dems who forgot to tell him a few details.
My tinfoil hat is on, tight....My ex had this and a few months later had to drive himself to the hospital and had quadruple. At first he was told no problem, then while driving a car the chest pains came again. Not good.

12. I don't recall the exact numbers now but a significant number of those having a heart attack had a
normal stress test within six months of the heart attack. Not that it isn't a good idea to check it out but should not encourage a false sense of complacency.

15. Exactly. The ex became very complacent and continued with the
diet of lobsters with gobs of butter, etc. That changed immediately after the operation and I hardly recognized him after the weight loss. Said it was the best thing happened to him (far more energy, etc.)...

17. So glad it worked out for him
Off the subject a little but you may or may not be aware that 30% of women diagnosed with breast cancer were negative on their last mammogram. I have one friend who had a negative mammogram the day a biopsy confirmed an advanced breast cancer. All these screenings are good but do not, in and of themselves, prove the absence of a problem.

instead of 911 if he really thought he was having a heart attack.

11. The Liberal Life of Conservative Mr. Limbaugh...
He rants about the sanctity of marriage and has conniptions about those who me calls "fags", and yet thanks to librul no-fault divorce laws, he's been married 3-going-on-4 times...

He rants about locking away people for smoking weed and pisses and moans about some unpatriotic left-wing conspiracy, and yet the first to stand up for him at the slightest hint that investigations into his prescription drug addiction were violating his privacy laws was one of his arch-enemies, the librul pinko ACLU...

He relies on ranting about librul Dimmycrats (not to mention relatively lax and librul libel laws) who win elections to make his millions of dollars....

He hates African-Americans, but thanks to desegregation in professional sports, he nearly got to scratch his jock itch and pay them millions to kick a football around through ownership of a team in librul Los Angeles...

And now, he relied on a semi-socialized health care system to nurse him through his heart trouble...

the hospital asked about his health insurance coverage. I wonder if he would have gotten the same care if he had been uninsured...

18. Bet Limbaugh and his insurance company
had to pay a considerable amout of money out of their own coffers for his stay in the hospital. Does not sound socialist to me. Or did is miss some fact that the State of Hawaii picked up his tab.
