Ill. sheriff charged with murder-for-hire
MURPHYSBORO, Ill., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- An Illinois sheriff, his wife and son have been arrested and charged with solicitation of murder for hire, officials say.
Jackson County, Ill., officials said Gallatin County, Ill., Sheriff Raymond Martin, 47, his 36-year-old wife Kristina Martin and his son, Cody Martin, 20, were arrested Saturday and charged with murder-for-hire, The (Carbondale, Ill.) Southern Illinoisan, reported.
The newspaper said all three were being held in the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro, Ill., with bond set at $1 million each. Officials said the three are expected to make their first court appearance Tuesday.
The Southern Illinoisan said Sheriff Martin had already been arrested on drug-dealing charges. He was reportedly indicted on three counts of distribution of marijuana and two counts of carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
