Please read this if you think we should unite with the teabaggers
Midge Hough recently lost her daughter-in-law (and her future grandchild) in childbirth. She went to a Town Hall meeting to thank Representative Lipinski for his vote on health care reform, and the below video shows how the teapartiers treated her:

http://www.facebook.com/l/90b7c;www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl5Jo0GnX-k

When, on our Message board, she implored the community to watch this video, a trolling teapartier who joined our group just to wreak havoc had this to say

9. It has been suggested that we unite
Thom Hartman is promoting that idea and several threads have been posted here.

I just can't do it. They are hateful, selfish and cruel. This comment is pretty typical of comments I have heard from teabaggers at rallies and town halls I attended through the summer and fall.

Talked to one guy who said anyone who lost their insurance due to losing their job should have been prepared by being able to move into a new career. We told him of a woman who was dying and had no health insurance because she had been laid off. He said "No I don't feel the leat bit sorry for her. That's her own damn fault"

Watched a lady tell African Americans who would listen to her that Barack Obama wanted to annihilate the black race.

Their stupidity is one thing. But their hate is just something I can't move beyond. So no, I am not interested in uniting with them.

13. My teabagger relatives are definitely hateful, selfish and cruel.
When I told one of them to NEVER send me any more of her hate emails, she then pretended she did it so that we would all "pray" about it.

Like, what's to pray about in an email that likens all Hispanics to criminals and says that Barack Obama's daddy was nothing more than a typical black man who gets a white girl pregnant and then runs out on her?

You chose JUST the right words to describe them: hateful, selfish and cruel. I would add fucking assholes to the end, though.

:hi:

20. I have a whacked out teabagging cousin
He married a fundie women a few years ago. They live in Texas. This awful duo sent out a Christmas letter - no card, that would have involved some effort - telling everyone about how they devoted the year to visiting bible colleges taking courses in Creationism. Then they visited some Creationist Center where they "learned" more and now my cousin is ready to start his "online activism", which will probably consist of spamming AOL message boards.

Then they bragged about organizing the tea party in their community. I wanted to vomit. They are both highly educated, successful professionals and I'm shocked they're wallowing in such ignorance.

I don't care what marginal issues might overlap - these people are whacked out, paranoid, and extreme. Nutty. I don't want one in my family, much less in my political circles.

32. Sounds almost exactly like my family. Except they were the fundies
and didn't have to marry one to claim the title. My relatives brag, too. About how it's just oh so patriotic. Made me want to barf. Funny but if anybody even LOOKED at GWB the cross eyed they thought they were traitors. But now, it's okay to even suggest secession.

Well, I thought I had my rant out of me in my posts above, but apparently I have a lot of rant left.

5. You betcha
I'm gonna "join" a buncha fake patriot morons who have to tune into glen beck to be told what to think. They don't oppose abortion, they get sexual release by saying they oppose abortion. Conservatism is without a doubt a mental disease.

Hurt more people? Que? Who? And I wonder why I still, on occasion, engage conservatives in conversation.

6. Sick and disgusting
It may be possible to find common ground on certain issues with people on the right - but not with the extreme right. People like the teabaggers, and equivalent far-right groups in other countries, are usually either racists or people who hate and despise the poor and/or otherwise vulnerable. Or most commonly both.

be able to handle tea baggers without a rubber suit? They can't even handle driving past a tea bagger without foaming at the mouth and just how many brain cells would they have to get rid of in order to ignore Glenn Beck and all the rest of the tea bag leaders ranting on stage about god knows what they see is wrong with the country. Thats just nuts beyond comprehension.

He is actually making a valid point. We do agree on economic issues and Thom thinks we should try to find a way to ride the populist wave they are creating.

But I just can't. I spent too much time with them at the town halls this summer.

33. In what way do "we" agree on economic issues?
They certainly don't agree with me on the economic issues surrounding health care. They certainly don't agree with me on the economic issue of taxation (they don't even seem to agree with reality on that one, they seem to think their taxes have gone up).

Where do we agree? I suppose both they and I are upset that executives have been paying themselves enormous bonuses out of TARP funds, but you'd have to be a numskull (or one of those executives) to not be upset about that.

37. And when they "are accidentally on the right side of things"...
...it is for all of the WRONG reasons.

I know a guy, a 65+ y.o. guy, I'd call him a "Teabagger." He STILL loves Dubya, he's a big fan of lunatic Michelle Bachman, he's real afraid of all them crazy Muslins, he's a real hard core right wing nutbag all the way, and he's a loudmouthed jerk that sarcastically makes demeaning comments about "Democrat" policies and "liberals" all of the time. In my work as an independent contractor/graphics consultant in the garment industry, I have to be around this guy, and sometimes deal with him directly, although I despise him (and he, me, we've had several very vocal disagreements). It doesn't help that, even outside of his warped political views, he is a complete idiot (especially in running his "business," which is basically a failure), so dealing with him takes three to four times longer than it should.

I have thought about this notion of trying to find common ground with the Teabaggers, but after my experience with this Teabaggin' dumbass, I know it wouldn't work. Like I said above, the Teabaggers will support a Progressive cause, only if they can be convinced to do so for all of the WRONG reasons. That's how flawed their logic and reasoning abilities are, not to mention that they have zero critical-thinking skills. Lastly, I believe they are just plain stupid (and often racist), so working with them would ultimately be detrimental to real small-d democracy/true populist causes.

38. Well, that is exactly it. 'All the wrong reasons'.
They oppose the HCR because they are afraid it will help people.
I oppose the current bill because I see it won't help people, and in fact will make things worse for most.

36. I don't think we should unite with Teabaggers but I think we should remain open to opportunities to
work with reasonable conservatives on some issues. Everyone is pissed off about the continued money to the banksters. I think we are missing an opportunity to capitalize on the populist anger and some are finding the teabaggers filling that void.

39. And a billion other disgusting things they've done.
If I'm not willing to defend the actions of Democrats that I think hurt the country, I'm sure as hell not going to defend the teabaggers that I know do.

I'm sure they do agree with me on a few very policy issues. The difference is all about the motivation.
They probably did dislike the current version of HCR, TARP, and NAFTA. But it's because they think the first two give money to minorities and the latter gives money to furriners.
Unlike Republicans, I'm utterly unwilling to hang out with racists, homophobes, misogynists, or randroids.
