The next step is NOT strip searches...
Edited on Mon Jan-04-10 10:57 PM by catnhatnh
That's almost a given in the current hysteria.

The next step is CAVITY searches. I've seen morons all day supporting strip search cameras as being just simple common sense, even though more simple common sense measures would have easily prevented explosive underwear...like checking into a guy paying cash for a transcontinental ticket...and to avoid the anti-profiling mood here I'd expand that into delaying AND further investigation into every cash paying customer who was on a watch list or otherwise unusual including little children, Christians and white haired white ladies...

All that said, in the case of the intelligence about a prior bombing that should have been a tip off to the underwear deal, the first impression was that the bomb was concealed INSIDE the perpetrators anus...

As the new scanners and full body pat downs come on line it can be almost guaranteed that the NEXT bomb will be an inserted one. The answer then is that the common sense answer is cavity searches (Ladies, you get two.) even though that is not even done for visits in prison with much more common sense AND reasonable cause...

So what will then be the next "common sense" media endorsed safety check when the first ingested or surgically implanted device fires off???

Slippery slope or "I never needed civil rights, anyhow." Because the progression is crystal clear.

9. We need to end the war on terror NOW!
This madness is ruining us. It is making us less safe.

Please try to do something to stop the insanity of the war on terror, today.

13. And, now, were we at war in the middle east on 9/11/01?
No? Hmm...

The hatred will never end, either way. It's endemic to humanity.

12. There will be no cavity searches.
For pete's sake. Nobody would stand for that, or so few would that it would end airline travel and bankrupt every airline.

25. I meant there will be no general cavity searches.
They will always be a rare thing. If that changes, the airlines are toast.

24. They will develop devices that can detect other than human innards.
It would be easy to tell if metal or plastic are used. To develop a bomb, from powder, or ?, will be very difficult, as you will need to make the container, at least, if not the ingredients, gutlike.

14. I actually think they are starting to hit the wall....
regarding what airline customers will put up with. You notice they backpedaled on the retarded "no bathroom last hour" rule. People will remove their shoes to fly, but I doubt people will submit to a cavity search for that dubious privilege. I think they would see their revenue collapse.

17. Oh, I dunno....
I have a very weird sister (and her husband) who would probably enjoy a cavity search or two.

Just saying...

15. Just sitting here earlier wondering about...
colostomy bags and catheter/urine bags.

Are passengers required to empty them before boarding a plane?

Oh, and while we're talking about cavity searches, lets not forget the possibility that Baby Terrorists might someday decide to blow up a plane after smuggling on a bomb covered in a big old hunk of poo in their diapers.

No matter what we do to try and stop them, determined bombers will always get one step ahead of us...

IMO

16. The airlines will not put up with that. They are struggling as it is. Many of them
would not survive the fallout from cavity searches being mandated.

It's already getting easier to conduct meetings without flying anywhere, and I'm betting business travelers faced with the idea of getting a cavity search every time they fly would absolutely rethink a lot of travel plans. Or start chartering a lot more flights.

And vacationers are certainly going to rethink flying anywhere. I know I would, and I *LOVE* to travel. I'd probably just move somewhere with lots of natural beauty and vacation areas nearby and start doing a lot more road trips. Amtrak and the cruise lines would probably see a boost, but the rest of the tourism industry would really suffer.

20. Yep, that plus we'll all get general anesthetic for the duration of the flight
That should put an end to airplane terrorism as well as the airline industry.

21. While most everyone in the US has multiple credit cards...
Until about two years ago, about 90% of the adult population in Ukraine (where I'm currently living) had no credit cards, or even credit at all.

I've even bought a car here using cash. Fifteen thousand equivalent in local currency. No credit cards, no credit, (neither my wife nor I qualified) no checks, etc.

Believe it or not, using a credit card here is more suspicious than using cash. And a bigger hassle too. Paper checks don't exist.

But again, people in other countries should be inconvenienced so people in the US don't have to be. Is it any wonder why the US has so many enemies today? And making more all the time?

.

26. If we're going to have full body scans, can we make them medically useful?
You know, if we can't fight the wave of the police state, maybe we can ride them toward the distant shores of medical care..
