Just got a call from the DSCC. They need my money to keep the 60 seat margin. Heh.

Picture this in the theater of you mind: I’ve got laryngitis so my voice is a cross between an anorexic toad and Gollum from the Lord of the Rings. She says, this call may be monitored to bla bla bla. We need your support to keep our sixty seat margin in the Senate and bla bla bla . . .

I interrupt to say say, in that distinctive voice, Hey! Listen up! Why should I give a good Goddamn about 60 seats? What the shit have you done with them? Listen up, kid, I’m donating my money locally and as far as I’m concerned you guys are on your own.

It literally hurt to have that outburst, my chest is aching from the effort and I’ve probably set my recovery back a day but it was worth it to hear the resounding silence on the other end of the line.

Yeah, I know it was some poor defenseless volunteer but what the heck, maybe the call really was monitored.

When the caller mentioned the 60 seat majority (and "strengthening it") I told him he needed a new script because I wasn't going to fall for that line again and that any money I dontate will only go to progressives.

They do most of the over the phone fundraising for the DNC DSCC and DCCC and that kid would have probably made a significant commission on your donation (in addition to telefund taking their cut out of it.

I told them I was terribly disappointed with the Senate bill and that if I donated money it would be to unseat blue dogs in the primaries.

I'll tell them politely but firmly that I'll be donating to individual candidates who are working to do good for the American people. The party organization has done nothing to help the middle and lower economic classes.

I got the call on New Years Day. Thank you for your past support ... blah blah, need help to keep the majority .... blah blah.

When the caller stopped for a second to catch her breath, I informed her in a polite but earnest voice, that I'll support them when they start supporting real change. Single payer, end the war(s), EFCA, etc. She tried to defend the actions of the Dems .... blah blah. I said goodbye.

The next day I received a fund raising call from Oregon Peaceworks. Why yes, I'd be happy to send them a check.
