Lady Gaga pours drink over man who accuses her of being a hermaphrodite
Lady Gaga pours drink over man who accuses her of being a hermaphrodite

LADY GaGa reportedly threw a drink over a homophobic man who made offensive comments to her in a nightclub in Canada.

The singer, known for her outrageous costumes and risque comments, was allegedly in an Ottawa club with friends when an unnamed male made anti-gay remarks to her and fellow singer Adam Lambert, who is gay.

According to the National Enquirer newspaper in the US, he accused GaGa of being a man and called Lambert a derogatory word.

"Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it," GaGa is reported as saying.

The male then reportedly called the pair "freaks" and said they were going to hell, to which GaGa replied: "Okay, that's it. Call me anything you want, but when you start calling my friends names, it's over - it's war!"

Gaga, who is touring Australia in March and April, apparently then poured a drink over his head and made a quick exit from the venue.

GaGa, who has had to defend claims she is a hermaphrodite in August, has previously been an advocate of gay rights and urged President Obama to enforce equal rights at a recent march in Washington.

21. Her new CD is pretty decent.
Only two dreckish disco tunes, the rest are great. Several unexpected styles are represented. Real melodies, too!

That said, I think of her as more of a visual/spectacle artist than "just" a musician - too bad there's nothing on DVD yet.

97. My sentiments exactly. Madonna, but she can really sing!
Madonna made some decent tunes her first ten years, but she always did so on a weak voice. Gaga has a strong voice, and she's a strong pianist.

She's everything that made us love Madonna in the 1980s, but more of all the good stuff and less of the not so good stuff.

26. So was PT Barnum.
Face it, she's an act, and not a particularly entertaining one at that (you're talking to someone who will defend Andrew WK to this day, so I'm clearly capable of appreciating performance art).

Spare me the indignation - I've watched the youtube videos of her original act, and she is a wonderful musician. You don't get into Julliard by being a hack. And yet she decides to become a fucking cartoon instead of being a musician. So while she's free to put out vapid crap because that's where the money is, don't expect me to respect her for it.

74. So did New Kids on the Block.
I don't begrudge her the ability to make a living. I just won't bestow her with the label of "artist."

And as you saw above, I gave her quite a bit of credit for her talent. It's what she chose to do with it that prevents me from counting myself as a fan. Not sure why people have such a problem with the fact that I just don't like her "music," but whatever.

82. I thought the idea of Lady Gaga throwing beer on someone was hilarious.
I didn't even know what a Lady Gaga was until a month or so ago, and I still don't know who Adam Lambert is.

I can appreciate the fact that she truly does have musical talent (see my mention of youtube videos of her before she decided to pursue performance art as opposed to music). I can also appreciate the fact that she's a good friend to the GLBT community. What I can't appreciate is the vapid pop garbage she seems famous for. Not sure why my personal opinion seems to get so many people riled up, but I guess I should feel honored that my opinion of music is held in such high regard my anonymous people on the intertubes.

is finding new music you like.

I can't really get into her either... too much pop, but I recognize the talent.

There is wonderful stuff coming out all the time, and it's not hard to find something brand-spanking new by a young artist that's right up your alley.

How many people have you seen that refuse to listen to anything written after the decades of their youth?
Ever notice how old they look and act?

There's a reason for that.

120. From Wikipedia;
1986–2004: Early life and education

Born on March 28, 1986 in New York City, New York,<5> the eldest child of Joseph and Cynthia (née Bissett) Germanotta, she is of Italian heritage.<6><7> At age 11, she was set to join Juilliard School in Manhattan,<8> but instead attended Convent of the Sacred Heart, a private Roman Catholic school.<9> Playing piano by ear from the age of 4, she went on to write her first piano ballad at 13 and began performing at open mike nights by age 14.<10> At age 17, she gained early admission to the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. There, she studied music and improved her songwriting skills by composing essays and analytical papers focusing on topics such as art, religion and socio-political order.<10><11> She later withdrew from the school to focus on her musical career.<12>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Gaga

Sure, that's not absolute 'proof' of talent, but one does not get into either of those schools without it.

Just to be sure, I went and listened to her stuff... not my cup of tea, but the production is crisp and well-crafted. The syncopation isn't baroque, but it's not unsophisticated. Her voice is obviously trained, even though she does digital remastering. And her composition is fairly novel with a slight 'out of mainstream' harmonic character.

All in all, I'd say she's plenty of talent.

I'll take Bjork, Skinny Puppy, and Bach over her though.

135. What? A Puppyhead? Here?
Really, finding one anywhere is unusual.

Very little out there is anywhere near as sophisticated while being so tenebrous and edgy. Most people can't listen to something that sounds like Bach on LSD.

For anyone who's spent a good portion of their life in emotional anguish and rage, and managed to turn it into effective mental processes, will hear something frighteningly familiar in their work.

Have you picked up 'The Dragon Experience' yet? Great instrumental, meditative stuff for those with complex minds.

140. Be careful... they continue to evolve like crazy.
That puts a lot of fans out. If you liked 'Warlock', what you'll hear will be a bit different than 20 years ago.

That's what I love about them; 20 years ago, they were ahead of today... and they keep evolving.

Mythmaker and GWotR are very different from Bites and Rabies... even from Last Rites, but the production is still crisp, the sounds meticulously crafted, the tracks set to the decay of caesium-133, and the composition mind-blowing.

And you're right, no SP album is really like the other.

Did you ever listen to the side projects, Cyberaktif or Doubting Thomas? Download never really grabbed me, but I can appreciate it.

This is funny to me to be talking about SP again, seeing as all I listen to these days is sad bastard alt-country/folk music. I'm sort of reliving my high school years pulling out the old Skinny Puppy albums again.

145. Lol... yep, they've always been on my playlists for a while, even though I listen to lots of other
stuff.

Cyberaktif was them before they were SP. 'Tear Garden' is a phenomenal side project. Get hold of 'Tired Eyes Slowly Burning', it has a remarkable ballad called "You and Me and Rainbows". 'The Hilt' was another side project of theirs where they get a bit odd, but there's an excellent and timeless piece called "Get Stuck" on the album "Call the Ambulance Before I Hurt Myself".

Their depth and breadth nearly rivals Pink Floyd, but the texture is so sharp and resonates somewhere a bit different in the psyche.

They hold a great deal of nostalgia for me too. Neat stuff.

No offense to anyone, and maybe she has some other talent that I don't know about, but her music definitely sucks, hard.

Her music sounds like the demo button was pushed on a synthesizer, and don't get me started on pitch correction.

Edited on Tue Jan-05-10 05:21 PM by davsand
I'm not smacking on her at all, but I think Lady Gaga is an entertainer rather than a singer. I don't run to turn her stuff off, but I probably will not buy her entire play list. I DO, however, think she probably puts on one hell of a show.

I always kinda saw Bette Midler that same way. She is an acceptable singer, but she really is an ENTERTAINER. I'd pay to see her anytime. She puts on one heck of a good show and you will walk out feeling like you got your money's worth.

Laura

Added on edit: Bette has always been viewed as a "gay friendly" entertainer. I neglected to put that in the original post and it is the main reason I brought her up.

If it's your contention that bigots, assholes, and other assorted jackasses are confined to the right, I would infer from that claim that your life experience has been somewhat limited. On the other hand, if it's your contention that speech with you agree is protected, but that speech which angers you is deserving of battery (he got his), then you're as scary as they are, and we have nothing more to discuss.

Of course, waiting for some DUers to acknowledge their own inconsistency is like waiting for Rush Limbaugh to see his own dick. (Technically, you know it's feasible, but deep down inside, you just know it ain't going to happen.)

According to the report, the guy was bullying and badgering GaGa with very offensive, personal insults. He's lucky all he got was a drink on the head.

Please note that i'm not one to support public disruptions such as hurling pies and tomatoes at those with whom we disagree. This, however, is a different story. The bastard was asking for it...and he got it.

By the way, you should look up "fighting words", which are not protected as free speech.

130. There were some pictures a few months back
from some concert/awards show or whatever, where she was straddling a motorcycle on stage, not wearing much at the time, and in some of the pics, it appeared as though she might have had a "bulge" between her legs that most women don't have. The resolution on the pictures wasn't very good, so it's hardly conclusive evidence. But she apparently played along with the rumors in the media for a while, saying she had both parts, whether jokingly or whatever.

And that guy totally deserved a beerwash for speculating if she is intersexed (though he phrased it insultingly). Calling her friend names called for the beer mug to be tossed at his head, too.

119. Good for her.
And yes, she is a talented artist. She just doesn't fit traditional "artist" molds very well, which is not bad, just different.
