Another one: Trunk left on Mira Mesa street was harmless.

SAN DIEGO — A trunk that was left near a fire hydrant on a Mira Mesa street Tuesday morning, prompting a school lockdown, was found to be harmless and full of junk, authorities said.

The bomb squad used a water-disruptor charge to open the steamer-type trunk about 1:40 p.m. It contained items like an 8-track tape player and projector slides that someone apparently wanted to get rid of, said Maurice Luque, spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Nearby Sandburg Elementary School was placed on lockdown and residents in five homes were evacuated about 11 a.m. Tuesday morning when the trunk, about 3 feet wide, was found next to the hydrant on Santa Arminta Avenue near Los Sabalos Street.
