"Jim DeMint says Obama too soft on terrorism"
Jim Demint is out and about using the attempted terrorist attack to drum up support for the GOP notwithstanding 9/11, the shoe bomber, antrax, falsified intelligence on Iraq, etc.

South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint went after President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush on homeland security Sunday, saving his most severe criticism for Obama, who DeMint said is so soft on terrorism he won’t even use the word terror.

Bush made a “huge mistake” by sending home Yemeni prisoners who had been held at Guantanamo Bay, and “we can’t make that mistake again,” DeMint said.

Obama, DeMint said, “has downplayed the risk of terror since he took office” and “is not even willing to use the word.”

However, in a statement Saturday about the Christmas Day failed attempt to bomb a Detroit-bound airliner, Obama said, “I’ve made it a priority to strengthen our partnership with the Yemeni government, training and equipping their security forces, sharing intelligence and working with them to strike al-Qaida terrorists,” according to the Associated Press.

In the same statement, Obama said, “And all those involved in the attempted act of terrorism on Christmas must know, you too will be held to account.”

DeMint said that, semantics aside, Obama “has been completely distracted by other things” and “not focused on building security and intelligence apparatus of our country.”

2. Maybe DeMint's office needs to be e-mailed with a link
to Google searches of all the times Obama has discussed terrorism recently. Plenty of bloggers have already pointed out that he doesn't have a problem discussing "terrorism" per se, he just chooses, as policy, not to see it as a thing one necessarily wages war on--it being a tactic, not a nation, people, or even definable entity. Also, contra Cheney, he knows we're at war because he finds himself the Commander-in-Chief in a time of it.

It's really astonishing how bull-headed these critics are--like a rodeo steer with his head caught on a barrel, charging anyway for sheer rage.

As to the "can't chew pretzels and watch tv at the same time" charge that Obama has been distracted by other things, it seems to me that Bush managed to wreck the economy with tax cuts, gifted the pharmaceutical industry with some Medicare Part D something or other, and threatened the security of the older population by wanting to fiddle with one of our more revered entitlement programs--whilst being at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, if not at war with the whole idea of terror itself. In addition to meddlings big and small in the intelligence, justice, and interior fields, appointed a variety of foxes to oversee industrial and financial henhouses, and all other manner of mischief. In the vernacular--he got'er done on a regular basis, probably to the sheer delight of his Pioneer-level fundraisers.

Apparently, the job description of "POTUS" involves "multi-tasking."

3. I guess that the screeners for his appearances have made sure
that nobody would be able to get in who might ask him why he's holding up the nomination ...

4. DeMint is getting ready to make a run at the WH in 2012,
He's playing to the radical right and teabaggers. He's an ass and if he ever does make it to the WH, we'll be longing for the good old days of the Dubya/Darth regime.
