Jan. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp.’s position as the gateway to the Internet will come under attack in 2010 as more consumers start going online via phones, tablets, e-readers and scaled- down laptops.

Reaching a Billion

By 2013, the number of phones regularly being used to access the Web will exceed 1 billion for the first time, a fivefold increase from 2006, according to Framingham, Massachusetts-based IDC. Over the same time period, the number of Internet-connected PCs will rise to 1.6 billion from 754 million, according to IDC.
“The push right now is to connect everyone and everything, and that’s why we’re seeing a plethora of devices,” said Jim McGregor, an analyst at Scottsdale, Arizona-based research firm In-Stat. “In terms of sheer numbers and usability, you can’t compete with a handheld. Everything migrates to a mobile.”

1. Inevitable paradigm shift

Web access began with cable-bound PCs - both at home and at work - but people want access to info wherever they go. The shift to wi-fi has been too slow in forthcoming, so people are using cellular connections instead. One way or another, people will get access to the info they demand.

3. Well, every one else can surf with a 4 inch screen

I want to add another 22" monitor to my desktop.

And even that won't be big enough.

To du. Checked the market already with no delay for starting up the computer or waiting for the wifi to come up. I loooove it.

Oh and I don't need to put my contacts on since my nearsight is still ok.

4. Viewing the internet on the tiniest of screens

I have had a wireless PDA for some time with internet access.

Its a pain scrolling and scrolling.


I will stay with the larger screen, laptop and desktop, the bigger the better.

6. I used to have an env from lg

Every line down had to be done with the down button. It was painful. Now this iPhone moves around the screen with the greatest of ease. I imagine the droid does too.

I am so ready to see the apple tablet. I was looking at the archos android with a five inch screen but it sounds too buggy.

7. I can certainly see the eveolution...

I own a Motorola Droid on the Verizon network. Fast as hell 3G network and a great Browser. All my favorite bookmarks are pinned to the 3rd screen of the Droid and I'm on a web site within seconds. Wait until 4G kicks in.

I told my wife the other day that my laptop is quickly becoming obsolete.
