Reality
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 10:44 AM by AllentownJake
People are projecting a rough 2010 for Democrats. More democrats in the next two weeks will declare they are not running for re-election mostly in swing districts, states, and GOP areas. They are doing this based on their own polling. People they have hired, not the MSM.

In 2009, people were projecting a rough time for Republicans, certain republicans announced they were retiring mostly in states or districts the President won.

Let's not spin this. It isn't 1/20/2009 anymore. Ignoring political realities is rather silly.

2010 could turnout to be a roaring success, but as of right now, a lot of smart people are taking their poker bets off the table, based on the hand they are looking at.

Let us be honest, change the culture, stop spinning.

1. What we need to do is start showing some support for the Dems
before GOP is back in charge.

12. Not your" version" of Dems.
You know the corporatist wing. That will get us nowhere. (and how about those Giants? they looked like the 'little sisters of the poor last week.):hi: (for the record I always vote for the Dem. always have, but I will fight the DLC types at every opportunity in primaries. )

3. Are we not allowed to be skeptical about the predictive abilities of "experts"?
People that claim to know the future should have no complaint if they are not always believed.

4. These are big boys
They hire people to predict the future for them on their own. They aren't doing this based on what they see on Morning Joe.

6. Arlen Specter is a democrat
based on what his employees told him. He'd still be in the GOP if he thought he could beat Pat Toomey in a primary.

11. He was a weather vane for GOP political thinking

When I see the primary literature for Democrats this year for Senate and Governor, I'll tell you where democratic thinking is headed.

I got a pretty good idea, based on the Dan Onorato web site.

7. Looks to me like those in trouble are seeing the light and cutting out.
That can't be all bad, we know they're going to go down, better to leave and give a good democrat a fighting chance. I don't think the country is ready to go bush on us again.

10. There is an anti-incumbent sentiment
Since we have more incumbents...that hurts us.

14. I think the anti's are quitting.
Fresh faces, fresh ideas. Think Barack Obama and how he blew away the traditional winners. People will remember how change is a good thing.

15. 2010 COULD be a roaring success
But it seems likely a lot of voters will be in the 'vote them out' state of mind. Having a few DEM incumbents not running could be the biggest help in a cycle where the votes may be big against those already on the Hill, regardless of party.

Our job: Find, support, work for real DEMS in districts that we might take.

I do think anger against the 'ins' is very high, across the political spectrum, but with good candidates, we can make this work in our favor.

The one thing that worries me is the volume of RW books on the best seller lists lately. One hopes a slew of left leaning books will hit closer to the election, but with enough time to get broad readership. Does anybody know what might be on the way?
