I expect this post to get ZERO positive replies
Everyone who would rather have or have had Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, John McCain, or any of a whole host of other right wingers, instead of Obama or any of a host of other Democrats, please make a positive reply to this thread.

Those of you who so tritely throw up this strawman, please stop it. It makes you look stupid when you do.

1. Positively
If we did, then we wouldn't be attacking the dems so much.
Its good to fairly attack the dems but a lot of it is just too much like Fox news.

But if we attack too much and make it so people don't vote dem, then we will get Palin and or......

3. Using RW Double blind--If you do not like this, you must like this.
does not solve anything.

Rather this is always a third and sometimes fouth option.

If you are not with us, you're agin us--too right wing.

One can be thoroughly dismayed and disgusted with Democrats, Obama
,whomever---yet not be for McCain,& Co.

You can be fed up with Democrats and still not be willing to
change parties. You are still a Democrat.

It is part of the "liberal" character, to question, to proble and
to point out when the conservatives in our party go over the edge
and move into RW Territory. We do not follow.

4. Another way to get zero positive replies would be to ask
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 03:00 PM by dmallind
Can you name another alternative who had a chance to win?

Or even:

Can you name another alternative who WILL have a chance to win next time?

If not, then it's a zero sum game. Any reduction in support for A increases the chance of B getting the job. Whether that is the goal or the intended consequence of that lack of support is immaterial. It is what will be the inevitable outcome of it.

That one requires thought.

Nonsequitorial strawmen are so much easier for the small of mind.

20. I knew we were done. That picture said it all
I was 19, ready to vote for the first time. Reagan scared the shit out of me. I was a perceptive young guy, wasn't I?

That convention - I knew it was over. Reagan won. And a few months later John Lennon was shot. 1980 was not a good year, and it ushered in a terrible decade to boot.

26. Yes, indeed. There actually *was* a credible challenge to a sitting president.
It wasn't a successful challenge. It didn't end with a good result. But it was, indeed, credible.

22. As they say, only Nixon could open China, so there's things Dems can do that Repubs NEVER CAN
The subject line above would be one good reason to have a republican in the White House. Admittedly those good reasons are precious few.

So that my comment is not misinterpreted or skewed, I'll clarify by saying this is hypothetical because I haven't fully researched the situation and was even going to put out a thread asking for lists of Obama accomplishments. That being said, if hypothetically (and of course there's SOME evidence for this) Obama were a corporatist and a hawk like Bush and roughly equal in policies (which is of course disputed) THEN it would be best to have the republican in office rather than the DINO.

If anyone reads this I hope they will see it's hypothetical but also True -- if the premise of rough equality in policies is true -- because the DINO will neutralize much of the Dem Party and thus be able to do things a republican could never do -- the analog of Nixon opening China because he's "trusted" to be "tough enough" on communists that he will be cut the slack to do so and neutralize many but not all of the critics in his own party

29. It's still true
Cry all you want, but it's still true. You're not going to see a liberal paradise in this country, unless you are under the age of ten, you have no chance of ever seeing that. But if you want to live in a right wing hell, there certainly is a chance of that.

Look at your fellow Americans. They get to vote and will vote. Some scary percentage of them was willing to have McCain be President. Even though he promised more wars.

These people are real. You're hiding your head in the sand.

It was aimed at people who post here, not the population in general. If we look at the population in general, you're 100% correct. And you're also correct that it is frightening.

Just by way of example .....
