An Insatiable Thirst For The End of the World
Don't get me wrong: I have loved the end of the world since I was a bitty little kid. I have an entire playlist dedicated to songs about nuclear apocalypse.

But why, now, is the fascination with doom mesmerizing so many people that mainstream TV is hard-pressed to keep apocalypse of sufficient magnitude flowing?

Carl Jung said that the future manifests first in dreams. If so, America is dreaming dark dreams, indeed; and we might want to pay attention.

1. I fear that continuing to employ these KILLER DRONES will soon open up the Gates of Hell.

The entire Middle East is about to catch afire. Thanks to the EVIL and GREED that resides within the ruling elite running the MIC.

WE ARE FUCKED unless GOOD PEOPLE stand up and say, "NO MORE WAR FOR EMPIRE."

2. Armageddonists think they'll be sucked right up to heaven
which is why they would start a nuclear holocaust here on earth to try to knock Jesus off his heavenly throne and force his return.

Uh, guys, he promised to come back before the current generation then living was dead. He's a bit late, he lied, or he found out it's a one way trip just like everybody else has.

3. Why are shows about ghost "hunting" so popular?
One dick makes some low budget show about ghost hunting, it gets reasonably good ratings for cable TV, so suddenly there are a half dozen clones.

4. Here in Seattle "doompunk" is up there with "goth" and "steampunk" at nightclubs and bars. nt

6. Yeah, I saw your other post.
But I mean- up there with goth and steampunk? Next to furries? I mean, how serious can that be?

7. That's pretty serious here!
Visit Broadway, and count the vampire clothes. Or the U-district and look for fuzzy ears on hats. Or, well, anywhere and spot the pseudo-Victorians or trailcloaks-camo-n-canteens.

8. RIght, but it's still just a fashion statement.
I mean, it's not like the goths are really going around promoting a lifestyle of necrophilia.

9. No, but the doompunks do seem to have an "urban foraging" wing...

14. We want to believe
I'm pretty sure I would rather be a ghost than a jar of ashes in the end. Some folks would rather go to heaven. We all have things we believe, even if not true, to make life a bit less desperate. Many of us hope that the Democrats are not just politicians. We deceive ourselves to remain sane. Hope floats?

15. Why now?
Because so many gullible people believe the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world in 2012. The closer we get to 2012, the more we'll see this hyped. Gotta catapult the hysteria, you know.
