17. There's no permanent sanctuary

against a global tidal-wave of thoughtless corporatism, militarism, intolerance, hatred, extremism and fundamentalism.

To say nothing of pressing, real-world problems like poverty, the lack of educational/economic/other opportunities/alternatives, resource overexploitation, environmental degradation, etc, that give force to such currents -- and cause real problems and pain.

I see no realistic alternative but to fight it out where we stand. (With or without hope.)
