Good post about Hume's Tiger Woods comment...
Just to preface, I am Catholic. I have struggled with the faith and most especially with the politics of the Church, but it is something that has also helped me to be a decent person. I am not posting this to open up attacks on Christians or any other faith traditions. I just thought that this was well reasoned and I happen to agree with the writer. This is from Salon:

Carole Hallundbaek editor’s pick answering the OS challenge Buddhists vs. Brit is a beautiful, well thought piece. It also takes the topic beyond a puerile, and sterile, us vs. them discussion to what really matters: spirituality. Yet, despite Hallundbaek’s conciliatory message, it is necessary to address the crass bias expressed by Hume on Sunday.

The problem with Hume’s comment is how he does pit two religions against each other. He does, indeed, say one can provide a better “result,” for what Woods needs, than the other. No one can say what was Hume thinking, except himself. Hume became a born again Christian in 1998 after the suicide of his son. It would be arrogant for anyone to presume his intentions to be other than those of someone who, having gone through a difficult time, wants to share something that helped him through.

The road to hell, though, is paved with good intentions.....

When any identity, ideology, or way of thought has been dominant in society it is critical that people understand that the biases are imposed upon other people and in a society that professes equality, that is anathema to the concept.
