Question for anybody who knows anything about using HDMI cords on their Teevees

Okay, so I need some help. I got a new HDTV and we decided to hook up the comcast cable box to the tv using an HDMI cord. Everything looks great. Except now on non-HD channels, there is quite a large black border on the right and left side. Anybody know how to fix the issue?


And I apologize if this is in the wrong area, not exactly sure where to put it.

1. The non-HD channels are still in non-widescreen

What you're seeing is normal.

I could walk across the room and look at my remote... but you get to select from a bunch of different resolutions, even one for letterbox. That sounds like the problem, but maybe not.

3. We just hit the stretch button for those channels, and go back to full for the HD ones.

by default because they aren't in 16:9. You can adjust it in your display options menu.

6. I had a similar problem when I bought my HDTV in November..

there should be a feature on your remote to stretch or zoom in the picture so that it fills out the screen. We have DISH TV with remote and there is a button on the lower left part of the remote that will let you stretch/partial zoom/full zoom or put at normal picture. With the normal picture though, sometimes the screen will fill out or not fill out depending on the show or commercial, so we usually pick the stretch or partial zoom feature to get the full picture. I hope that helps you out.

By the way, this problem occurs in both HD and non-HD channels on my TV.

7. Yea, actually the HD channels are perfect, its just the non HD channels.

Id probably choose the Zoom1 option because the stretch distorts the picture a little bit too much. I just find it weird that for my HD no widescreen tv in the living room, the HD channels would have the black borders on the top and bottom and we would often zoom to see the whole picture. With this new widescreen TV, its the opposite with the regular channels needing to be zoomed.
