(01-07) 19:16 PST MENLO PARK -- The 20-year-old son of former San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds has been charged with five misdemeanor counts stemming from a Dec. 5 altercation with his mother and responding police officers.
Nikolai Lamar Bonds faces two years in county jail if convicted of the charges, including one count each of battery, false imprisonment, vandalism, threatening a police officer and obstructing a police officer, said San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Bonds, who was 19 at the time of the incident, reportedly became angry after his mother, Sun Bonds, questioned him about jewelry missing from the house they shared in Menlo Park.
"She did not accuse him of it, but she was questioning whether his friends did it," Wagstaffe said. "That's what started the disturbance. There was yelling, screaming. She started crying." Sun Bonds is the former wife of Barry Bonds.
