WH security report was further redacted before release

Some observers were scratching their heads after the White House released a highly anticipated declassified summary of its review of the Detroit attempted air terror intelligence failure today.

National Security Advisor Jim Jones suggested in an interview published today that Americans would be shocked by forthcoming revelations. Former 9/11 commission co-chairman Lee Hamilton also alluded to another shoe to drop when he spoke to reporters at a breakfast this morning.

But when the six page review was released this afternoon -- almost four hours later than originally scheduled -- there were a few new details, but -- a shocker?

An administration official acknowledges that the declassified summary was further redacted between 1pm when Obama was originally scheduled to speak on its findings, and 4:30pm, when he did and the six-page summary was released.

Why does it feel like Obama is having one of those Presidential "come to Jesus" moments that people love to speculate about? You know, the ones where some powerful old men play a video of the Kennedy assassination from a different angle and all that. I wonder if Obama had to be reminded today by a few grey-beards of what kinds of truths we Americans can and can't handle.

5. Two things:

1. OMG, they don't use soundex/metaphone/loose spelling? Huge freaking hole.
2. They likely dropped the amount, and level, of relevant information that was collected ahead of time, because people in the US would freak out about it. Once they saw the level of legally collected data, they might want some laws changed. (Hint: all foreign bound traffic is legal to sniff... that includes phones, emails, web pages, etc)
