A girl that lives in the walk up next to me is having a problem with her boyfriend and her baby's daddy.
Baby's daddy showed up at 4am "calling her out". She in turn came out and tried to shut him up so as not to wake the baby (and, perhaps, the neighbors). The mom and the baby daddy are in their 20's. The new boyfriend is in his 40s.
Now, at different times both of these guys hang out in front of our building or next door with their crews. They smoke pot, drink 40s. Chill out.
Sometimes they get loud. Especially regarding sports and our local high school basketball team, which might go to state this year.
I never call the cops. Live and let live unless there is violence, then ya gotta Samaritan it up.
Tonight, however, I decided to call the cops. The baby daddy kept screaming at the boyfriend, "Yo! This is the ghetto! Ain't no one gonna say shit if I yell all night at the her window. Aint no one gonna say nothin."
So I called the cops. Hang out and have a good time and be loud, I'm cool. But don't brag that no one on the block don't give a shit. Cause I do.
Both these dudes signed my democratic nominating petitions last year when I was trying to win the democratic primary for city council. They both know me as a "pretty cool white guy" that cares about the city.
So when the cops come, quickly, from a block away, I step out. Both baby-daddy and boyfriend are embarrassed. Mom and baby are back inside. Baby daddy says to me, "Yo bro. My bad."
I say, "No prob, guys. I just wanted to make sure that the girl and baby are safe (both baby daddy and boyfriend care about the baby). I think that folks are gonna be steppin up a lot more around the city so we lose less baby's and our kids are safer. I think more people will be gettin to the cops if they think a kid might be in trouble."
Ya see, before Christmas, a 4 year old boy disappeared 4 blocks from my house. Last week the cops were in my buildings basement, backyard, and looking under our back deck. (here is all the details, my fb friends can see much more -
