Proof this weather is making people crazy - now they are shooting the snow plow drivers
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 08:36 AM by proud2BlibKansan
Someone shot a snow plow driver early this morning while he was on his shift in south Kansas City.

The driver, who works for the city’s public works department, got on his radio and told his dispatcher he’d been shot about 2:35 a.m. at Interstate 470 and James A. Reed Road, police said.

He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The driver had stopped under a bridge on the highway to take a break when the suspects approached, according to media reports.

Police said two men reportedly drove away from the scene, but a complete description of the suspects was not available.

Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 08:41 AM by proud2BlibKansan
My sons says he probably owed a drug dealer money. That's comforting - snow plow drivers on drugs. Whoopee.

edit - shit! I can't type today, too damn cold.

5. Don't worry -- the NRA'a spokesDUers will be along soon to explain why this is nothing we should...
...worry our pretty little heads about, and how dare we
politicize this anyway?

10. But they'll have such fascinating input on what kind of gun was used.
And how if only the driver was packing an Uzi or three, that this would have never happened.

Just Having a gun makes you Dirty Harry y'know.

11. Ain't THAT the truth!
Quite telling that this didn't appear in the gungeon first. There's no mention of CCW, the NRA, the 2nd Amendment, plus no bad guys got gunned down - none of the elements that make for good gun porn. To qualify as good 'stroke material' over there, you need a lurid headline that follows this simple formula: '<blank> shoots <blank>'. It's like ringing the bell for Pavlov's dog - sorta like the response that aficionados of a different type of porn exhibit when they see the words, 'Dear Penthouse Forum...'

30. They'll get this moved there in 3...2...1
I'm wondering why one group here is allowed to dictate policy for the rest of us.

And, yeah, that's their MO: Argue about the type of gun used, accuse the poster in question of "politicizing the victims" or "profiting on their pain", and shout down any poster that argues that one's more likely to get shot with their own weapon than shoot the "bad guys".

:eyes:

15. Hang in there, it's gonna be in the 30's by Tuesday
It's the only thing that keeps me going.

Record cold, record snowfall for us in NE Kansas. 21 inches is normal for the whole winter. We've had 25 so far, and most of it is still all on the ground. And it drifts the roads closed every time the wind blows.

25. Well, they seem to have overestimated that on the low side.
I just came in from shoveling the sidewalks, and there's almost no wind so far. The low here in St. Paul ended up being about zero, rather than the 9 below they predicted yesterday. It's still cold as the dickens, but not as cold as they thought it would be.

24. quite the leap there. You're making ridiculous leaps.
First of all the shooting of one snowplow driver is construed by you to be multiple shootings of snow plow drivers. Then you attribute this shooting to the weather. How would you know the motives of the shooter?

Completely ridiculous assumptions on your part.

28. You got it half right you just missed out on the fact that every time you have snow and ice
you get snow plows and salt trucks, making it very likely that the drivers of said trucks the cause of snow. Get rid of the trucks and there won't be any snow or ice, freeper logic 101.

31. Actually not ridiculous at all; this is very unusual weather for here
People are going stir crazy, it's so damned cold. One of the replies here says a water dept employee was also shot. There are broken water lines all over the city here. A friend had a pipe burst and had to turn off his water and the water in his toilet froze. That might be common in the snow belt but not here.

And I can't remember a winter when we had snow on the ground for 2 weeks. It almost always warms up in a few days and melts the snow.

But thanks for kicking the thread! :hi:

33. Well, right now in Nebraska and Kansas, this weather IS sort of making us crazy.
Highways are closed where I live--roads are drifted over and impassable, and we're at minus 6 today. It's been awful here since mid-December. x(

On the news this evening the driver said even if they catch the shooter he won't press charges. :wtf:
