Is anyone planning on getting DISH in the near near future?
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 12:24 PM by dixiegrrrrl
DISH has a promo out that will let new subscribers ....that would be you...
save money if they use a current subscriber's ...that would be me....referral code.
Pls. pm me if you are interested.

I forgot to put this in: I will get a one time reduction in our DISH bill.

The question I asked was for anyone who is planning to get DISH. I already know that
some people like their cable.
I did not post to start a flame war pro or con on tv reception.

17. Lol....wish it were my mind going instread of my vision.
I have a cataract developing in one eye, and am quite surprised how much it affects my concentration.
It is amazing.
Will not have insurance coverage for another year, so all I can do is wait.

2. I wouldn't use DISH if it was DISH or a lifetime of radio
I had a friend who worked for them and told me they asked her to lie to ex customers to get the back into the fold and fired her when she refused to lie.

3. The problem with dish that I have is that if there's a problem
the dish is yours and you have to pay to cure it. I have cable now and have for MANY YEARS. If there's a problem I call them and it gets fixed at no charge to me. My BIL has dish and he's happy with it except when what he calls sun spots take it out sometimes. Cable is not perfect by any stretch, but for all that $$ I pay, I know it's not going to cost me any more for any problems!

15. We have DirecTV and never had a problem
We still have our original receiver, an old Hughes that is still working - about 12 years old now. Planted and aligned the dish myself, never have to mess with it. The only time we lose service is with heavy precip.

6. Same here. There are some problems but they are minor.
No different when the cable goes out.

When I do have problems I can usually fix it myself.

20. We avoided Direct tv because Murdoch owns it.
And we chose not to go with the only cable available, Mediacom, because of their poor response rate in our very rural area.

8. Already have Dish, or I'd take you up on it.
How are you liking it?

I left Comcast and went to Dish to lower my bill and get some good HD channels.

My only complaint: not getting BBC America and MSNBC with TurboHD Gold.

I may change to a different package but it's confusing so I'm just putting it off.

That's like everything, every channel, isn't it?

I'm trying to keep it under $70/month. The channels I'm not getting don't seem worth the extra $$$$.

Happy New Year!

30. We have the plantinum pkg. and do not get those stations on DISH,
Fortunately, there is the puter...
I think we will be doing away with tv altogether soon, actually.
200 channels, full of commercials, and the puter provides better news.

I agree about trashing the TV. However, I'd seriously miss "A Team" and "Quincy: Medical Examiner" on RETRO. Oh, and "Wagon Train" on The Western Channel. :silly:

32. You'd like LINK TV and the Free Speech Channel.
And maybe the Pentagon Channel, too.

These come with some of the lower cost packages.

LINK TV is showing "the Corporation" right now!

9. I'd just like to get the Dish Network to come to my house
and remove their freaking dish from my garage and fix the holes. It was on there when I bought it 5 years ago, and wasn't connected then. I already removed their stupid box from my basement and threw it in the trash. I removed the wiring and threw it away.

I've called them many times and they just aren't interested. So, next spring, I'll remove the dish, patch the roof and throw it in the garbage, too.

10. It's not their dish, it's yours.
The dishes are so relatively cheap that they have a policy of leaving them with a home and installing a new one when a customer moves, on the possibility that the new resident will want service. But seriously, don't throw it away. Give it to somebody who can make use of it.

12. I will never use any DISH system again. I lived in a rural area
without a cable option from 1993-2002. I had DISH Network during that time and I will never do business with them again. I had more outages, equipment failures, billing errors etc.,.

I know people complain about Comcast but they have been heaven to deal with compared to DISH and I've had only one service outage since 2003 and that was when I had a tree cut down in my backyard and the fall of the large Douglas fir broke the underground cable. I had a technician out and temporary cable in the ground within two hours and a new permanent install done the next day. They also gave me a two day credit on my bill that I hadn't requested.

23. It was the opposite for us. We've had dish since it started up because the cable
in our area was not only utter crap in terms of service but it looked like it was coming in over TV rabbit ears. We thought, "Why pay for something that looks like that?" So we switched over when we moved from an apartment to a house.

24. We've had Dish for over ten years.
No complaints, to speak of. We do occasionally have outages when heavy weather comes thru--meaning bad electrical storms--but with any sat system you are gonna have that.

We live in a small town in rural America, and our local cable is a joke. You are paying about what we pay for DISH, but you get about 20 channels, and of those ten are either God channels or home shopping. I'm dead serious when I say it is lousy enough to skip cable and brave the airwaves with an antenna.

My Mom has Direct TV and she seems happy enough with it and with their service. However, when we were shopping for a sat system, DISH had a better selection of kid channels. Dunno about it now--that is less of an issue with our daughter being older I know Direct TV service seems ok from what I can tell from being at my Mom's house, but we have DISH installed already and have o complaints with it.

YMMV, but we are happy with our DISH.

34. Good luck.. I tried to give those gift cards away several times
and people must be afraid of getting a freebie from a friend.. You can get them any time you run out, in case people do take you up on it.. My own son couldn;t wait to get one in the mail.. He was in too big of a hurry and just paid the installation.. My cards were for money off every month AND free installation..
