HuffPost: More on Geithner/AIG
Stunning Comments from the White House on the Burgeoning Geithner/AIG Scandal

As a follow up to yesterday's explosive news, check out today's an amazing - and hideous - interchange between CNN reporter Ed Henry and White House press secretary Robert Gibbs about new evidence that Tim Geithner's New York Fed instructed AIG to hide information from SEC regulators (by the way, big kudos to Henry for trying to get some answers):

An OP a few days ago asked whether Geithner was going to be fired. My reply was that I didn't think oligarchs got fired, and that I sense a promotion in the works.

The promotion thing was sarcasm, but it looks like I was right about Geithner not being fired.

Of course, a thorough investigation, if there is a thorough investigation, will make things more clear.

1. Looks as if they're still going with 'Heck of a job, Timmeh!"
That reference to 'no controlling legal authority" from the Enron days is too close for comfort. And, as I keep pointing out, if this were a liberal member of the administration who signed something unrelated to his job years ago the White House would have had his desk packed and him escorted out before the ink was dry on the first paper to report on it.

2. I think the more press this gets, the more uncomfortable they will become,
so maybe...?

At this point, that's what Gibbs has to say. We won't get any real info until we hear that Geithner is resigning to spend more time with his family.

3. Lol! I email the White House a lot
I tell them regularly that I'll believe the President stands for the American people when I hear Geithner, Summers, and Emanuel have decided to spend more time with their families.
