3. Good points.
A great many folks don't want to look ahead, or to have a reasonable discussion about the alternatives.

14. Well, we'd better start digging dirt on him right away
With the exception of a couple Mormon GOOPers, I don't know of any repug politicians who aren't 'compromised' in some way. Party leadership knows where the bodies are buried; it's up to us to find out how many flies this guy has got on him and use this information to our advantage.

6. If things in the country improve...
we can push left. I like Whitehouse out of Rhode Island who seems both to stand up to the right's nonsense but is no flame thrower. Seems left of Obama and for accountability. I wouldn't mind Bush in the dock after he figured he was safe.

For repub's it's at best obscure. In a poll tonight an actual possible candidate (Mitt Romney) polled at 8% as "leader of the republican party". McCain, Palin, and Limbaugh polled over 75% combined...but obviously it isn't any of them. It someone not yet appearant.

For Republicans, either Palin or Romney, whichever one doesn't get the nomination in 2012. If neither of them runs in 2016, possibly Bob McDonnell, if he makes a successful record in Virginia.
