http://slatest.slate.com/id/2240933/entry/12/GOP Aides Beg Steele To Stop Talking Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is busy promoting his new book, and party leaders are so angry with what he's saying that they sent their top aides to deliver a message to Steele's handlers: "Get him to stop." Senior aides to Republican leaders told Steele's staff in a conference call that their boss needs to stop giving off-the-cuff remarks, such as when he told Fox News that Republicans wouldn't win back Congress in 2010, because he's hurting party morale. The conference call turned into a "bickering match" with Steele's aides saying they have no real control over where their boss goes or what he says. There have been reports that some longtime GOP fundraisers are holding off support for the RNC out of frustration with Steele.
But Steele is publicly unaffected by the criticism, telling his Republican critics to "shut up" in an interview. "If you don't want me in the job, fire me," he said. "But until then, shut up. Get with the program or get out of the way."Read original story in The Washington Post | Friday, Jan. 8, 2010
