We are wasting political time, energy, and resources.
We're playing football, but the wealthy and powerful are playing chess. We focus on stopping Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney (who are stylishly-shaped and empty, like footballs) from getting to the end zone while the rest of the opposition runs right by us.

During the HCR debacle, we found out who *really* runs this country, and it is not the far left or the far right. It is not "independent voters." We *all* got screwed by the power brokers who have a single concern: consolidating and increasing their own power.

Do Wellpoint or Exxon care about gay marriage? Of course not. To them, the whole gay marriage debate is nothing but a way to waste our energy and resources. To give us something to fight about until we win and then they throw another obstacle in our way. These people could care less about moral issues. They're not for gay marriage or against it. All that matters to them is "Does this help me or hurt me?"

We *have* to fight for important issues like gay marriage and other progressive causes. But let's *also* focus on the root of all the evils.

As Jesus might say, "You're always going to have the nuts that support Sarah Palin with you," but let's also focus on opportunities to make some *real* change by exposing the people who are playing us for pawns.

I suggest the AIG bailout is a good place to start, followed by the Fed program to buy up bad mortgage securities, but there's plenty to go around.

1. Looking at wall street will not help the dem party
I mean, if you look at AIG, you might see that Obama is more a corporatist then a progressive. It might get ugly..

2. On the other hand, I tend to think that Obama
is a pragmatic progressive. He's playing to Wall Street because he has to, but a little more voter attention could free him to oppose the corporatists more strongly.

Under Bush, nothing was gonna help. With Obama and the current Congress, it might not take much to free up a lot of breathing room for progressives.

5. The Health Care debate made it abundantly clear.

Our collective elected officials do not represent us. They represent the powerful that are completely comfortable with such capitalistic excesses as war profiteering. The military has a large population of people that volunteered because it was their only way out of a life of drone like economic overworked unhealthy servitude! The only people in our population bearing the burden of these two wars of choice are the lower and middle classes! Have we not advanced as a civilization beyond the times of the Roman empire? Isn't life only supposed to become more fair and equitable and compassionate, not less! It means a return to the times in history when life sucked for all but the power elite at the top!
