A man has been jailed on charges he stole $50 from his ex-girlfriend at a Wal-Mart, then tried to flee on a motorized shopping scooter owned by the store.

Craig David Jr., 32, of Smithfield, was arrested on robbery and other charges Wednesday.

State police said Mr. David had just been released from a hospital and was still dressed in a gown when he entered the store to meet an ex-girlfriend who had agreed to pay for his prescription medication. Instead, police say Mr. David grabbed $50 out of her hand and drove away.
