The local battles just keep popping up. I am working to lead a coalition against the anti-choice groups Susan B Anthony's list and Feminists for Life :puke: who purchased Susan B Anthony's birth place and are utilizing & lying about her legacy to further their campaign against choice. (Updates on that fight coming soon - I can report that we have a meeting Thursday & I have been in contact with historians. There is a lot of local interest to expose these frauds, so it should get very interesting). Hoping to have a day of awareness and protest organized for February 14th, the day of the ribbon cutting of the museum.
Meanwhile, four miles up the road, they want to build a Super Wal-mart.
And, the locals have organized a pro-Walmart group.
Yes, their leader is proud to have organized to fight the anti-Walmart group because they really want this store. They want competition, you see. I know. I know. The level of ignorance is astounding. The level of 'I want it as cheap as possible, no matter what the cost' is worse.
What I have gathered thus far, the local paper is bought and owned for the pro-Walmart side, the city appears to expediting the process with backroom deals and pushing this forward really fast.
My husband went to the anti-Walmart meeting and became the defacto leader of the movement against it. And, he is confronting a defeated attitude of 'what is the point', they are too to big to fight' from area businesses and locals who stand against it. Defeat before the battle even begins.
He has the worse end of the deal. I have a bunch of empowered women roaring to fight as a starting point. He has a apathetic or cowed group of individuals intimidated by the prospect of fighting a corporate giant (though hopefully I can send some support his way).
Yikes.
