It was the GOP that forced Lott out, not the Dems

The GOP is rewriting history again.

The move to remove Trent Lott after his racist comments several years ago was made by GOP conservatives. Democrats didn't ask for him to resign.

Democrats *WANTED* Lott to survive... so they could use the issue against the GOP in the elections.... it was the GOP big-wigs that pushed Lott out so they wouldn't have an embarrassment to deal with in an election season.

There is no Lott-Reid "double standard". In *BOTH* cases, it was the GOP trying to push a man out of the senate, and in both cases it was the Democrats that largely shrugged their shoulders over it.

The GOP is lying again.

1. The GOP had it out for Lott long before that incident
it just gave them the opportunity to throw him overboard, and they took it.

It's tempting to follow that example!

2. They always lie.
The same goes for the past few weeks, when all these Republicans have been lying about how the Democrats and media bitched and moaned about Bush's response to the shoe bomber the same way they are bitching and moaning about Obama's response to the briefs bomber.

They are so full of shit, and no one will call them out on it.

3. We Do and keep it up My Friend
Just like "there were no terrorists attacks on America when Bush was President." And "Reagan never raised taxes." If the lie machine says crap like that, oh say, once or twice, the fake patriots will run with it for decades.

You called em on it and keep it up.

5. Why?
So we can have one less Democrat in the Senate?

Why would that help us?

6. Really? I could have sworn that Kerry and Feingold were Democrats.
Edited on Sun Jan-10-10 09:13 PM by FBaggins
I know they were the first in the senate. At least the first to call on him to resign his leadership post.

On edit - The first person of note that I can find calling on him to resign was Jesse Jackson

8. I always thought that incident was strange
After Lott's statements were made public, there was a day or two of weak defence by some GOP members.

Then all of a sudden, BOOM! Calls for his resignation. And they were frequent and forceful, from every corner - radio shows, Faux News, prominent politicians.

It's almost like they didn't know WHAT to think for a while, then orders came down from on high - "get rid of him".

It was a remarkable example of groupthink.
