The DU-o-matic codificator is here!

On my way to improving the publishing system, I've made a tool that does automatic inserts of the DU-codes. It's really handy, you just mark the text you want to 'codify', and then it wraps the text when you push the button for the code you want. Especially handy if you have a lot of links to go in your text, blog style. You don't even have to remove the http: // !! :P
When the text is finished, just paste it into the DU post form.

It's a plain html file with no server-generated stuff, so if you want it locally, just save it to your disk and upload it to your server.

Tested in Mozilla, Internet Exploder and Opera, but will probably work elsewhere, as long as you have javascript enabled.

Awright, I didn't know where to post this, so it went into the GD. If the DU wants to use it, it's of course all in the opensource area, released under the B.E.E.R license.

Is somewhat tricky, you have to paste the url into the url field, then mark the text and click add link. Or if you just want the bare minimums, just set the cursor where you want it and click. Thanks, uppityperson :P

Do you have a ticklish virus warner or high security level set? That may be triggered by js.
But rest assured, it is hand coded from top to bottom, so I can garantee that no malcode is in it.
Hmmm.. maybe I oughta post the code, all things considered. Then I get to try the pain message format that I've never tried.

35. This is great, minor problem, when "save page as" in Firefox I get two

sets of control boxes at the top of page. I forget how to do a screen capture to show you. Looked at the text and I see this line, could duplicate be a problem.

39. I recently did the same thing using Visual Basic 6.0

The inverted question mark button yields a pop-up screen with various character map items (I may add to this). The small button on the far right deletes phrases like 'story continues below | Advertisement' (msnbc). Yes I am lazy when it comes to copying/pasting/editing posts, so I had a little fun creating this! Only 32kB and virus free ;-) if anyone wants a copy.

I've never understood why, with all the upgrades and fancy additions making DU so wonderful, admin never found it worthwhile to make it easy for us to add the codes automatically, like this. So many other less useful discussion forums have it automatically. :shrug:

you can click on it from your saved folder or open it from the file menu. Once you have it opened just bookmark it.

But this is a thing of beauty.

I've requested something like this in DU editor on several ocasions. I've not seen the admins discuss it. My feeling is that, with all the improvements and innovtions in our interface, they could have done it pretty easily. I think they chose not to, because it would result in DU looking like some giant ransom note.
