Seriously.. what in the world is a Liz Cheney?

Besides being Darth Vadars daughter, what has she done, been, studied, to be consulted by major media outlets and programs as a "security" expert?

How far off the cliff has the media fallen to even begin to consider her on a panel..

1. Well, perhaps she read a book on safety? I hear if you read something
about a topic, or attend a seminar you are considered a expert. Now, I wish the credentials for being an expert were expected to be more, but from what I have heard recently that is all it takes....

5. Beltway Circle Jerking...
The GOOP have mastered the ability to compromise and use the corporate media. They know the buttons to push, the moles to plant their talking points with and how to stroke the others. Thus their lies go unchecked no matter how outrageous they are. It's a byproduct of a media that is starstruck with their own "imporatnce". It's all about getting a byline or face time...and you get it by stirring the shit...spreading the bullshit or outright lying. The downsizing and cheapening of this media has led to most the networks bringing on the usual suspects...all secure in their egos and self importance that is a lot cheaper to program than doing the investigative work to fact check or question the bona fides of those making the claims.

Lizzard is using daddy's friends...the ones who covered up his war crimes and still must be intimidated by this evil family. Credibility means nothing as it's all about egos. Many know lizzard will lie, but it gets eyeballs and creates fodder that fills up the rest of their airtime. Don't expect it to end anytime soon. Lizzard will slither out with her lies...put up bogus web ads that are played ad nauseum for free...and if any dares to question her, they're obviously some liberal pinko.

she should know a bit.

She has also earned a law degree.

It's a complete and total genuflection to The Evil One to put her on national shows. It's kissing Satan's ring, so to speak.

17. and what are those qualifications . . . .
So - 5 years at the State Department provide no experience in "security"????? Who knows if she is an expert - isn't that in the eyes of the beholder?

I don't like her either - but to say she has accomplished nothing and is not qualifed in anything is just silly.

In her defense, she did not pick her Father - she does choose to defend him - but who wouldn't do similarly.

I wish she would fade into the background - but this overreaction found here is just what the RWers want - a further thorn in our side.

Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 09:30 AM by hlthe2b
if my Daddy were the Commander. I'd probably learn something over 4-5 years, but that would NOT make me a nuclear expert nor a nuclear engineer.

Working for the State Department hardly makes her a security expert. In fact, as I recall the position she held was created for her.

I don't know what your specialty is or if you are a physician, but making the assumption, it would be like having the surgical nurse speak to the intricacies of a complex neurosurgery in lieu of any of hundreds of neurosurgeons or their residents, who have actually performed the procedure. Sure he or she has been in the OR and observed. Is she/he the expert? In Liz's case, she hasn't even had the experience but has only soaked up her father's opinions.

27. no - not a physician - a technologist
but is the claim that she is THE expert - or an expert? If the latter - that claim can be legitamized with her State and USAID background -at least on the surface. Those are not small details and it is jsut silly to say she has NO qualifications.

34. I have worked overseas considerably and have signficant
understanding of USAID as well as State Department workings as well as geopolitical issues in a number of regions of the world, at least ot some degree. However, to suggest working at these tangential agencies provide any experience or expertise on national security issues is ridiculous. They are not tasked with national security specifically, though given their mission, they obviously have a concern for same... Hillary Clinton is the Secretary of State and would thus be the person most likely at State to have such expertise (and I would argue that she does). But that expertise is not a function of her having worked at a low level created position at State Department, as would be the case with Liz Cheney.

40. Depends on the job... They have a changing and at least
tangential role... To say that any State Dept. employee is an "EXPERT" on national security is ridiculous. The argument against State issuing visas post 911, which was a big damned deal in Congress a few years ago, is that their approach and policies with respect to visa issuance was NOT based on security as its first priority.

43. "depends on the job" . . . . of course
there are security-related positions at Dept of State. There are more non-security related positions.

I am not claiming she is THE expert - or even AN expert. "Expert" after all is just in the eye of the beholder - not any certified position.

Any MSM news show - or entertainment show ala o'reilly or hannity can claim she is an expert. They can back that up by saying she has years of experience at the Dept of State and USAID. Until her actual job is outlined - that claim sounds valid as stated.

She did work there for years. That cannot be denied.

41. I too have considerable experience in the ME...
and while that gives me valuable perspective, I would never suggest that I am an EXPERT in national security... Just more knowledgeable than the average American. The American people deserve better than to have these propagandists pushed off on us as national security experts by our feeble media. I am really shocked that you would defend the practice

of course what they really want is the Cheney name. That is simply backed up by claims she is an expert based on her years of experience at State and USAID. Is it right? Of course not. BUT . . . it is true and will continue as long as we have interview shows on TV.

Nothing else can account for her 15 minutes of fame. Consider others who have worked in the same capacity with far greater experience and expertise, and what remains is public relations that can only be influenced by Dick Cheney.

Open the phone book to the yellow pages and start reciting all the names with law degrees. Call us back in about 3 hours... and that's just YOUR phone book... :eyes:

36. She worked for both as a political appointee ...
from 1989 to 1993 while her father was Secretary of Defense, and again as a political appointee from 2002 for the Department of State while The Dick was the Shadow President, although she took a short break to help out with Big Daddy's campaign from 2003-2004.
Had Big Daddy not been in the picture, it is arguable as to whether she would have gotten where she is. But she is there now, unfortunately for us.
Here's the Wiki write-up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Cheney

She is not unlike many bullhorns in the public eye today. While maybe accomplished in some life endeavor, they have nothing more than perhaps a connection to someone notable, or made a momentary splash in the pool of 24/7 news. Liz Cheney has a big mouth and is not at all shy about uttering flamebait remarks that she knows will be picked up by the MSM. If she was anyone else but Dick Cheney's daughter, her remarks #1 would not even be heard, and #2 if heard would be ignored. But because she is who she is, her every word is repeated and broadcast to generate controversy and give all the talking heads something to talk about.
