Bring it on, PUNK! Prediction: H.Ford won't even be able to get on the primary ballot

Ex-Tenn. Rep. Ford says he may run for NY Senate
http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100112/NEWS90/100119926
NEW YORK (AP) -- Former Tennessee Congressman Harold E. Ford Jr. says he is "strongly considering running" against New York Sen. Gillibrand (JIHL'-uh-brand) in this fall's Democratic primary.

Ford outlines his qualifications and positions in Tuesday's New York Post.

Ford, who's 38, took a job with Merrill Lynch & Co. in New York after losing the 2006 Tennessee Senate race.

He is also the chairman of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, teaches university courses and is a political commentator on MSNBC.

Gov. David Paterson appointed Gillibrand after Hillary Rodham Clinton left the Senate to become secretary of state for the Obama administration.

You are the problem, Harold E. Ford Jr! DLC, Merrill Lynch, lifelong Tennessee resident. Why the hell would you think you could do anything in New York State? Just try to get on the state wide ballot. You ain't goin nowhere, punk!
ps- I think this is much to do about nothing. I think it is a way for the dems to avoid a primary. The grassroots won't look for a liberal to run in the primary if we are out to beat the shit out of the DLC. So we get to beat down the DLC, and Gillibrand gets to keep her seat.

2. Before he does anything he needs to take a brush or comb to his head.

3. What are the requirements in NY for him to get on the ballot?

5. I have to look

But I think he needs to get 15% (or a certain smaller number) of registered dems in each congressional district.
In 2004, only Howard Dean was able to get on the ballot statewide (Kerry did as well by filing short petitions - he could have been kicked off the ballot if the Dean camp wanted to do it - but by then Kerry was the candidate and no one wanted to rock the boat).

10. Keep in mind that you were using numbers for President.
They wouldn't necessarily have the same requirements for a Congressional office.

14. I am looking at state wide races, all the # are the same
We have 2 senators, gov, AG, and Comptroller that run statewide. Pres too. I think they all use the same numbers.
Again, I'll check out the BofE when I can and report back..

4. I thought you meant HARRISON Ford.
Well, wasn't Hillary Clinton DLC and a lifelong resident of other states? She got in the Senate rather handily in New York.

6. Yes, but that was a trade off so that she wouldn't tear down the Big Dog
remember, at one point there were three women that could have brought our government down
1. Chelsea Clinton - "My daddy is a sexual deviant and has put his lust over any love he has for his family."
2. Monica - "TPOTUS is a sexual preditor."
3. Hillary - "He cannot be trusted and we will be getting a divorce."

If any of these women had turned on the Big Dog during his blue dress moment he would have needed to resign.

Hillary was given NY (no one even premiered her - actually a young NYC lawyer did - but no one of potential). She was given it so that Big Dog could keep the presidency.

8. uh, how?
Lets say that we have a gov primary (Cuomo v. Paterson). Who will side with Ford over Gillibrand?

The NYS Dem party is not gonna take Ford over an incumbent.

So how will Ford get over 23 different grassroot efforts up and running by June 6th (the first day of petitioning)?

I am sure he will do okay in NYC. But upstate, forget about it.

13. They'll pay 1000 people to get 15 signatures each.
It doesn't matter who sides with whom. He'll be on the ballot of he runs.

15. Actually, we have requirements forcing petitions to be carried across the state
NYS is not an easy state to run for office. There is no $250 filing fee and you are on the ballot.

Ford will have to get a certain amount of sigs from each of NYS congressional districts (at least 23).

The party (which petitions every year more or less), grassroots (which petition when interested) and the incumbents are all against him, as far as I can tell.

It really ain't that easy to buy your way on to the NYS ballot.
Even if he hires all these people, he can still be kicked off the ballot.
I am sure that he won't be able to do it. SURE!

16. Unfortunately I know too much about the petition process in NY.
And I know about the requirements and restrictions. It's difficult to get on the ballot and that's intentional. But the idea that Ford won't get on the ballot if he tries is a fantasy. You're better off concentrating on something that will happen.

17. If he is for real, I will be running someone against him
Unless Cuomo backs him and Cuomo runs for Gov..
Shit...
Even then,
I am not a big Gillibrand fan, but I will take her over Ford.

I would love to see someone from the left enter the primary.

I am lucky as Ghouliani ain't running, as I would need to back anyone to beat him.

So this year I will carry petitions for
Maurice Hinchey in Newburgh.
John Hall in Cold Spring and New Windsor.

And waiting to see if Cuomo wants to run and needs help. If he does I will help him in the Hudson Valley of in NYSCD 22, or wherever he needs me.

Did you see my post where in 2004 the only Presidential Candidate that got all the sigs he needed to be on the statewide ballot was Howard Dean. Both Edwards and Kerry (along with Leiberman, Gephardt, Sharpton, Braun) did not have enough sigs to get on the statewide ballot.

Perhaps it will take hard work to keep Ford off the ballot. I just saw a pic of him in front of a confederate flag. He really ain't goin nowhere up in NYS. At least not if I have anything to do with it.

18. There were two candidates that got signatures they needed in NY. Dean and Clark...
The rest didn't have the signatures. It almost became embarrasing for Kerry, because if he won, he wouldn't get a full slate of delegates. :dunce:

I don't support Ford in any way and I would work hard against him if he ran. He's terrible for NY. I can see a scenario that Ford does well because of demographics. I just hope that true liberals stand up to him.
