I'll say one thing about the next Dem Majority Leader:

He/She should be from a solidly blue state. It's fucking stupid for the dem caucus to put a red state Senator in the spotlight. It leads only to his defeat. You'd think they'd have figured that out with Daschle, but no.

Reid will almost certainly be defeated this year, but the Senate will still be majority dems. Time for a blue state ML, ladies and gents.

2. Yeah, they've really gotta catch up with the present. Time was a red-state Dem leader made sense...

because the parties had a gentleman's agreement not to go after congresspeople in leadership positions. Thus, putting your red-state Dems in leadership positions saved seats that would otherwise be iffy. But the GOP broke that with Daschle, and certainly wishes to continue the trend with Reid, so these days, a blue-state Dem. as leader makes much more sense.

Now, that said, there are still advantages to having a red-state Dem. in a leadership position -- it gives people in that state more reason to vote for the Dem., after all.

Reid is one of my Senators and not quite as conservative as some we have but I would prefer a more liberal leader of the Senate. Just one small victory here, though-Nevada did go to Obama in '08.

I'd actually prefer Bernie Sanders, but since he's not actually in the Democratic party, they would probably never let him do it. Positive side of that is that it also keeps Lieberdouche out.

Empowering a seat that is already safe doesn't fit their model.
