This Might Be Dumb - But Is There Anyway We Can Spin Laying Off People From Their Jobs......
or making their jobs redundant, downsizing, outsourcing - an unpatriotic thing for employers to do?

I still say they are doing just the opposite of what they should be doing. If you pay people a decent wage and keep them employed - they will buy things that theirs and other employers make. Thereby their employers would have to make more to keep up with demand. Also - being employed means that people will have to pay taxes on their wages. Money coming in instead of money going out to fund unemployment.

I know this is a very simplistic way of thinking about this - but laying people off, making jobs redundant, downsizing, outsourcing - all work against the system and tends to make the situation worse for all.

That is why I'm thinking we should start a campaign to say that this is unpatriotic and that the patriotic thing to do is to keep people employed and pay them a decent wage to keep the wheels of our economy going.

Am I being too idealistic here?

asking a question. If you can unrecord this - you should be able to say why. Is this that stupid a question or am I missing something here?

2. If this was a dictatorship Obama could order all layoffs to cease immediately
I'll take the Fifth on whether or not that is a good idea.

3. They think the Chinese, Indians Mexicans and other low wage nation's peoples
will buy their shit. The problem with that is, they're not paid enough to buy it either.

4. Yes we can! First, get an opposition party
to counter the power of the Democratic and Republican organs of corporatocrasy. Then Reform campaign funding, and the media. Educate the public that they have been BS'd into voting against their own interests for decades. Then they'll get elected and make outsourcing unAmerican!

5. Yes
Yes, you are being too idealistic here.

Harvard MBA's don't pull down their well earned 7 figure salaries by being idealistic.

They earn those big bucks by being sociopathic cynics.

6. I raise eyebrows when I call the cynical and deliberate wrecking of the middle class "economic
terrorism" -- so I agree with you.

7. Corporations don't care about patriotism
They only care about the bottom line. What we need to do is change the laws so that corporations have better goals than just making a profit.

9. Well... as long as corrupt capitalism makes a PROFIT/bottom line argument ....
Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 03:13 PM by defendandprotect
you'll have nothing ---

PROFIT over PEOPLE . . . !!!

That's the philosphy that has to change -- i.e., down with capitalsm!

Or, reregulate capitalism to the hilt and put it out of business and move on

to democratic socialism...

PS: Not a bad idea either if you think it's important to save nature/planet--!!!

10. Wow
So, here I am busting my ass 80 hours a week trying to keep the business running, earning less than my lowest paid employee and if I'm finally forced to lay someone off, I'm unpatriotic?

11. I Feel For You - You Sound Like You Maybe Run A Small Business That's Struggling......
just know that part of the reason you are in the situation you are in is because the big firms/corporations spin their employees off just to make their bottom line look profitable and to protect their bonuses. They don't have emotions for the people that work for them like you sound like you do. They wouldn't do what you are doing.

Those firms/corporations are the ones that I would target and try to pin the unpatriotic moniker on. They would have to think twice about it if they thought that being labeled unpatriotic would affect their brand.

I'm just saying that if people are paid decent wages and feel secure in their job they will spend money. Once they get rid of their workforce - it's like shooting themselves in the feet. The very people that they depend on buying their products - start to cut back and then it's just a downward spiral.

That's why job's are so important. Obama needs to do everything he can to get people re-employed.

Thank you for what you are doing to help. I see you as a patriot.

13. ONLY IF, you defraud your employeer and your customers and pay yourself bonuses and then layoff
...2/3rds of your employees and decimate a community.

Not if you're sacrificing to do the right thing for your employees.
