Afghans are appealing people.
I am impressed by the beauty of the Afghanistan's. They appear to be an attractive, robust race of people. The photographs and videos, that I have seen, show that they are handsome and healthy. The images, however, are predominantly men, as the women usually have their faces covered with a burka veil.

7. She is a girl of 12 in that picture.
Sharbat Gula is her name.

9. Yes, they went back and "found" her a few years ago.
Time has been hard on her.

8. I was always more affected by her eyes and her expression.
Sort of as if she already knew of the horrors to come over the next 25 to 30 years.

There is a look of apprehension and of despair. But resolute as well. Challenging.

I remember when it was published, I cut the cover off of the magazine and trimmed it, and put it in the center of my "fabric board" in my office (with lots of push pins hanging photos, memorabilia, knick knacks, swag, etc). Not because I desired this girl or anything, I just thought it was a great photo.
