Given substantial damage in the intitial quake, these fairly strong aftershocks could finish buildings that the first quake didn't get.

Latest aftershock measured 5.2 about twenty minutes ago:

Edited this post to reflect the new numbers. Now eleven aftershocks. A 5.8 registered minutes ago.

6. You said it. If Fox ignores this, you half expect it...
...but what's MSNBC's excuse?

Running regular programming right now is shameful and a complete abrogation of their responsibilities and waste of their resources.

7. The next 72 hours will be critical
It's the fresh water. Fresh water is already very scarce in Haiti.

More people could die from the lack of fresh water in the next three days than from the actual earthquake if fresh water isn't airlifted in.

14. Water has been and is a huge issue:
In Haiti, contaminated water is the leading cause of infant mortality and illness in children. Germs for hepatitis, cholera, and chronic diarrhea are carried in water used for cooking and drinking. Nearly every water source in Haiti has become contaminated with human waste because of the absence of a sewage sanitation system.

Haiti now has the highest infant mortality rate in the western hemisphere. The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that more than half of all deaths in Haiti were due to water-borne gastro-intestinal diseases.

http://www.haitiwater.org/water_in_haiti/problem.php

In 90+ degree weather, the problem just compounds.

10. I've been through about 10 earthquakes, and have never experienced the
aftershocks that so many do. I can't imagine how unnerving that must be, especially with the conditions as they are there. And it's night. Those poor, poor people.

18. Now up to seventeen aftershocks
CNN has scooped everybody on this disaster which will prove to be the worst in the history of the western hemisphere.

If adequate food and water are not moved in within the next 72 hours, it could be worse than the Christmas Tsunami which was the worst natural disaster in recorded human history.

and they are quite strong, the latest being 4.8.

I can only hope there will be a major outpouring of support from around the world as Haiti will surely need it.

The fault had been quiet for 5 hours. I hope this doesn't herald another cluster.

God this is horrible.
