Insane military strategy in Baghdad....

just watched segment on Hardball pertaining to the 9 82nd Airborne troops that were killed yesterday.

Patraeus, it seems, has a strategy in Baghdad of deploying soldiers into neighborhoods manning a sort of forward deployed police precinct in various parts of the city, all over the city, and invariably these little outposts are not as well defended from attack as say the Green Zone, which has a modicum of defensive measures built in that gives SOME protection from attack...

Aren't these poor souls in these little wild west fortresses just cannon fodder for truck bombers? Seems to me that if I were going to fight against the US strategy, I'd be driving truck bombs into these not-as-fortified positions and kill as many soldiers as I could - like that which happened yesterday to those 82nd Airborne troops..

WTF are they doing? Do they (US leadership) want more dead soldiers? This seems like a ridiculous policy..

1. I understand that this 'combat outpost' was completely destroyed

The bad guys used 2 suicide bombers and small arms fire, it was called 'a complex operation.' It is complete insane to pursue this sort of policy!! You'd need to have 500,000 troops there to pull off a 'military win' over there!!!

What are they supposed to DO out there???

Is there some other "team" (contractors?) that is supposed to help protect these soldiers in these police stations?

Or - Are they just bait?
