My heart goes out to the people of Haiti today

and I see that every news station is on the job and covering it, with pictures and videos and reporters and staff.
On the other hand, where is the news that should be covering what is really going on in Afghanistan , with the destruction and chaos and death occuring there on a daily basis ?

It seems that life always manages to hand out one or two disasters every year that merit making a donation to the Red Cross or some other charity that provides direct assistance.

The Haitian situation is such a shocker, not only for the suffering but because it occurred in an area that was not heretofore seismically active. It could have been Pittsburgh. It really shows how vulnerable we all are. I couldn´t help notice that the pictures from Haiti show large, heavy collapsed masonry walls; not the best construction for earthquake protection.

4. See? There's always going to be a "contest" over which news "deserves" to be covered "most."

I feel sorry for news directors, trying to decide how to fairly cover a disaster like this without giving unfair short shrift to ongoing stories.

6. I've been hunting down the coverage and the horror they're

dealing with is truly heartbreaking. Lots of donations being sent, Facebook, MySpace users are really spreading the word along with sites like this. People are so upset over this, it's hard to imagine how such a poor people are going to cope. Much love to Haiti.

8. Pentagon knows best. Don't question authority!

There aren't many people in this country who would support what we're doing if they saw the truth of the violence.

I want to say that there isn't even one person. But there are some really lousy people walking the earth. But nevertheless, that violence would stop tomorrow if... even that isn't true. Vietnam didn't come to a halt over night.

I guess I underestimate the evil in people's hearts.

Still, out of sight out of mind.
