Ever have a sarcastic remark taken literally?
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 01:38 PM by icymist
Have you ever said a witty remark in a jesting way but forget to use the:sarcasm: icon? What icon can you use with your blackberry or typewriter? Well, guess what snarky? Now you can buy software that has a New punctuation mark which conveys sarcasm! Just imagine how much easier reading will be when you know for sure that the author intended sarcasm. Personally, I can't wait for the sarcasm icon to pop up in television shows, billboards, political speeches, magazine advertisements, and so many other places where people with short attention spans (and anger management issues) will have no doubt not to take this seriously.

on edit to add :sarcasm:

4. Well OK
Sounds logical to me... Now they have to make one with a slash through it to indicate "no sarcasm here"

7. It happens regularly online and
the result is that a lot of folks think I'm a complete moron. Happily, I don't care.

The internet (especially DU) is so full of bright and clever people that I could never conceive of that happening.

10. A very costly mistake!
I once answered a question my second wife asked me with sarcasm. She took it seriously. Once the damage was done there was no way I could convince her that it was meant as a sarcastic joke. From that instant on everything went down hill and 3 months later she filed for divorce.

That was 16 years ago, and it still counts as the biggest mistake I ever made.

12. Maybe you could file suit against the software designers?
Simply make claim to the fact that this was an intellectually proprietary idea in which the technology did not exist 16 years ago.

Where do I have to take my typewriter in to have this slight modification performed?

I was highly amused that someone believed that I thought NASA was going to nuke the moon.

And I refuse to use the "Sarcasm" tag.

14. Quite a bit, but it's my own fault. I deliberately don't use the sarcasm icon.
Keep people on their toes. ;)

15. I told a joke about my grandmother one time. I was being completely sarcastic and my cousin's
laughed at it. One of my cousin's fiancee didn't laugh. I've always wondered if she thought I was being serious. But I said nothing at the time. And now I shudder every time I think of it.

So thanks! :sarcasm: LOL!
