I am taking a moment to recognize the good work of CNN
Blitzer was just on with the ambassador from Haiti and was taking reports from on the ground in Haiti (CNN is the only station running live on the round reports).

The ambassador has had ZERO contact with the Haitian government since the quake.

He was able to question Haitians about current conditions, including specific road conditions, that will be critical in his work requesting aid from other nations.

Blitzer basically turned over the satellite link to the ambassador and his correspondents on the ground to allow him the chance to get this information.

Kudoes to CNN.

1. Why wouldn't they? There's blood and guts and no need to spin things.
Easy ratings.

5. I turned on Faux this morning and they were still
talking about Harry Reid's comment and how the HCR bill will be the end of the world as we know it. At least CNN was covering the story.

6. FOX has FOX's Agenda. CNN and MSNBC have ratings.
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 05:33 PM by YOY
FOX will always care more about their Agenda than Ratings.

"Conservatives" justify it with their constant bitching about a "liberal media" needing a "conservative balance" but they wouldn't know a liberal media from a corporate ratings machine if it bit them on the ass.

2. This is where they shine
If they'd realize there's already one Pox News and dump the right wing talking heads, we'd have them back as a viable news outfit.

I notice they're not cutting away to dead blondes today. Kudos to them for that.

4. I agree. They also seem the most up to date in using new technology
Rick Sanchez really has done a good job with that.
They need to get better political commentators but they have always been good at this type of reporting. Anderson Cooper was good during Katrina, though I cannot really stand him.

11. Better idea for CNN...
CNN has been around for 30 years. They know how to do the "shit hit the fan" moments since almost day 1. CNN's problem is normal programming and has been for most of it's existence, less so in the Ted Turner days (no competition). I would like to see CNN get rid of all political talking heads or limit them to The Situation Room only. After all, Wolf Blitzer is the descendant of the political shows from Bernard Shaw and Judy Woodruff of the 90s and Crossfire of the 80s.

They need to get back to storytelling, Aaron Brown would be a show worth watching again, even at 11PM.

One other thought, I do believe that CNN and to a lesser extent, MSNBC is covering the story this way, because there is no police/US Government forces to stop them, unlike New Orleans, South Mississippi, and Galveston.

3. He did this yesterday as well - basically giving the microphone to
the Haitian ambassador to allow him to make comments directly.

They aren't perfect (far from it) but they are doing a good job of serving as a conduit for information in this case. A hell of a lot better than MSNBC - they should be ashamed of themselves.

7. I totally agree. MSNBC and Fox just cannot stop with
the political horserace garbage. They just can't.

9. I flipped over to Tweety a few minutes ago
HE was on with Chuck Todd talking about the political consequences to Haiti's ruling govenrment over this.

:wtf:

I'm serious, he was actually comparing this, where as much as 1/200 Haitians may have died, to Bush's problems with KAtrina and what the political fallout would be.

8. CNN has had excellent coverage during this crisis.
Gave FOX about 10 minutes during a commercial, but switched it back over quickly.

12. Difference btwn CNN/MSNBC and FAUX
I do like AC in general, and think CNN really stands out among the three when it comes to real reporting. You do have to give MSNBC credit- they are at least reporting on the disaster. Last night, all of Rachel was on Haiti as was, as I recall, most of the rest of the night.

FAUX, on the other hand, couldn't get their heads out of the Harry Reid sand long enough to report on it- a news flash between BillO and Hannity was about all they could muster. Sharpton had to bring up Haiti- Hannity barely acknowledged it, and Coulter the ManEatingFish couldn't even nod her head in agreement to how devastating it was.

The difference is- and I think this was blatantly clear last night- CNN leads the three in the on the ground type stuff. MSNBC at least cares and WILL drop the political horserace type stuff to report on world events/breaking news AT LENGTH. FAUX doesn't give a damn unless it advances their agenda and happens to people THEY care about. Plus, they couldn't blow Palin's debut, could they?

Ohhh, new conspiracy theory: Earthquake was caused so that Palin's debut could be RUINED! It's not that big of a deal- the liberals are saying it is so that Palin's debut and what she has to say isn't listened to!

13. CNN has been the only news station in this. FAUX and GENBC are opinion networks for the most pa
part, and have shown themselves accordingly.

14. Your view of the world is very limited if you think CNN is doing "good work."
Better than the Fox Entertainment (for dodos) or News (for dumbass morons and haters) channels. I'll give you that, assuming that is your usual benchmark. But AJE has been running continuous and very in-depth historical background pieces instead of re-runs. Did CNN mention this - the real deal with the devil - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7461273 ? Did they even hint at it? AJE mentioned it as a part of the short historical intro.

No, of course not, and you w2ould p5robaly send a complaining email if they did.
